Going to a hotel on your own

I’m about to lose the plot at the moment, getting under each other’s feet- has anyone just buggered off to a hotel for room service and wine alone? Nothing dodgy just some me time

I love in central London and early September my dp and I are staying in a hotel I can walk to (and we use for the bar anyway). Couple of nights. Just to get away from (not each other!) our home set up and feel we went away a little this year. So not ‘me time’ but for sure for a break.

purplecorkheart · 21/08/2020 18:20

Yes, used to do it regularly enough before lockdown. Had a horrendous day today and am seriously considering doing it tomorrow if I can get a reasonably priced hotel (sadly unlikely where I am, as there are no options like Premier Inn etc).

mindutopia · 21/08/2020 19:08

Yes, personally I’m not a fan of hotels (I get myself an Airbnb). But yes, in normal time’s I take a holiday or 2 a year for 3-4 days and leave Dh and dc at home. It’s great. Dh does the same (though he doesn’t enjoy his own company like I do, so he always goes away with friends instead). It’s great!

We have a holiday cottage booked for next month (booked last year and was planning to just take dc out of school as was the only week we could get). Obviously now school has been closed for so long that I don’t want to do that as want them back with friends. So I’m going on the Tuesday as planned and Dh and dc will join me at the weekend. Can’t wait! 😁

I've just got back from such a break. Gave me the oxygen I needed to carry on in stressful home/work life.

Nothing amazing. Started off in quaint hotel but the service, room, social distancing and lack of quiet wasn't cutting it for me. Complained, refunded and went to inner city premier Inn. 7th floor. Brilliant. Clean, super quiet, friendly staff, social distancing excellent.

Massive breakfast every day, books, books, books. Wander around city. Wine, films, starfish sleep.

I actually missed home, they missed me. Probably marriage saving.

SilverOtter · 21/08/2020 19:28

I've stayed over in hotels alone once or twice, not for jollies but out of necessity because I needed to be somewhere.

I can honestly say they've been the best nights of my life😂 Wine and chocolate in a big bubble bath, then into my jammies and then bed by 9pm for a blissful uninterrupted nights sleep! Rock and roll baby😉❤️

Wantchocolate · 21/08/2020 20:09

I've done this. I went to a hotel about 10 minutes away from where I lived. I needed to have a break from things. I ordered room service and watched films. It was expensive but worth it.

Recently I had a hospital appointment quite far away from where I live. I booked a hotel and it gave me something to look forward to. The food was fabulous. Luckily the trip to the hospital went well.

I haven't, but I have thought about it quite a few times.
Maybe one day!

No doubt I'd just feel guilty anyway and probably end up scrolling mn or fb to distract myself.

This thread is exciting. I can’t afford it right now but I’m thinking of scheduling in a night or two away in a hotel before 2020 is out. We’d be helping the economy after all!

Codexdivinchi · 22/08/2020 11:09

I have a couple of times. Got in to bed at 7:30pm slept till morning. Had a lovely breakfast whilst reading the paper, swim then went home. It mad a big difference to my mental health.

Grin

I LOLed at how he had to rock too - sounded so funny (& specific!)

PoppySeedSaid · 22/08/2020 11:10

My friends sister used to do it when she had two young children to get some quiet time.

RegalRags · 22/08/2020 11:16

I did this last weekend! Went to a lovely hotel in the city centre and had very relaxing time.
Sat in the bar reading a book with had a glass of champagne whilst I tried to pretend I'm a civilised human being.
Ordered a deliveroo because they had very little room service and then breakfast in my room the next day.

I do this 2/3 times a year to keep me sane.

imissthesouth · 22/08/2020 11:27

I've done this a few times when everything piles up and gets too much, i often go to london and stay in a hotel for a night or two, helps clear the mind

Perfectstorm12 · 22/08/2020 11:32

I love this thread! I am thinking of doing this too for the first time this year, feel quite excited now. I love the idea of a long walk and just lots of space by myself. I was thinking I had lost the plot for even considering it but you have reinspired so thank you!

SausageCrush · 22/08/2020 13:18

Wow, what a fabulous idea!
I'm going to do this too, it sounds very indulgent and exciting.

Separatedat41 · 22/08/2020 13:29

We should all decide on the same hotel. We could eye each other up in the hotel bar. Lots of lone women with books & glasses of wine 🤣🤣

Honestly having a dog to take out for a walk alone after work or on the weekends is so nice, i think i'd feel quite alone walking round without her
