Divorce after one year

Has anyone else separated after only a year of marriage? What happened? Did you get back together? What happened with the settlement?

I have been married for one year, my second marriage. My first marriage was 20 years and we had kids so totally different circumstances. I am beginning to think that I have made a mistake with the second one but wondering what might be ahead for me and my teenage daughter if I call it quits now. I'm particularly worried about my daughter.

Yes, my first husband and I separated after 10 months of marriage. A range of reasons really, he was abusive, a drinker and I later discovered, having an affair. I had resigned myself tI that life forever, until my family turned around and told me to get out. At first the separation was amicable and we agreed to wait two years before divorcing so that we could sell the marital home without early repayment charges, but, 3 months into our separation, when he moved his mistress in and got her pregnant whilst expecting me to pay half the mortgage, I filed and things turned nasty. He fought me all the way, ended up in court, judge found in my favour and after three and a half years separated I was finally divorced. It was exhausting and expensive, but I know I did the right thing.

I don’t know if this is of any use to you. Reading it back it sounds so depressing - I’m sorry! There were no children involved so I didn’t have to consider that. I couldn’t have done it all without the support of my parents and friends. But I am so much happier now than I ever was with my first husband.
