Feeling trapped

Hello! I’ve been living with my ex for a year. I have found it all but impossible to find accommodation and I feel so scared and alone. I have lots of friends but few of them live nearby and those who do have small houses full of small kids.

I’ve tried so hard but I can’t find anywhere under 1300 per month, which is so much money. There’s a rental crisis where I live and this is honestly driving me to the edge. I’ve looked far out too.

I know none of you can offer a quick fix but some support would be greatly appreciated.

Which area are you living in roughly, perhaps we can try look for you?

Would you live in a house share? These are much cheaper but obviously not suitable if you have DC. Also, look at flats. Some of them are much bigger than you think

I’d rather not say where I live as I know friends of mine use this too. I’ve been looking at flats, apartments & houses but the prices are insane. It makes me so sad how greedy people are. I honestly feel horrific. Some days are ok with my STBEXH and some, like today, are just horrible.

You could say the area, unless it’s very very tiny/ rural? If it’s near a city you wouldn’t be identified

Unless you stay somewhere really expensive then you should be able to get an ex council flat or something cheaper. We can’t tell you when it will get better because we don’t know how realistic your expectations are in what should be in your new place for a given price.

I’m not looking for the sun moon & stars — just a regular place for myself & DC. There are no ex council flats where I live. I don’t live in the UK.

It’s just a conundrum and I know no-one has the cure. I have to just keep on trying but it’s been a year and I know it’s time to move on.

What about going a 1 bed and one of you sleeps in a sofa bed in the living room or something? Downsize the number of rooms needed just to get out?

Yeah I think one beds are my only option — it’s just so hard to find one. People are looking for cash or prefer one person — it’s been a bit of a nightmare.

What do you expect from a furnished apartment? It seems scant ...

& I’m scared sh**less about moving to a new place & being away from H. This is the scariest thing I’ve ever done.

Have you accepted then? It's scary and stressful making change but you said you wanted to get away

yes I’ve accepted! I needed to move — it’s complicated.

It’s so hard to find decent accommodation. This place seems ok but has no furniture yet and doesn’t comply with fire safety regulations ... other than that it’s perfect.
