Father's day

With Father's Day quickly approaching I'm torn between getting my DP a Father's Day present. His DS (my DSS to be) will likely do things with his mum and the nursery but this is the first Father's Day we've spent together. What should I do? I dont want to come across as taking over Father's Day but he is such an amazing dad! I'm worried the mum isnt going to bother with anything and he would be gutted not to get anything at all :(

Can you get a back up, like a just in case Fathers Day card?
We are married now but when my DSD's mum didn't do anything on fathers day (and DSD was too young to do anything off her own back) I took her too a card shop and ket her pick out one for him.

Why don't you get DSS to make a homemade one, fold a bit of card and let him scribble on it. Sure that would be appreciated even if he gets a couple of others.

I would definitely get something. A simple card, nothing OTT. Maybe some nice chocolate he likes or a key ring photo of him and his son. I suggest avoiding anything generic like best dad mugs as from experience that will be what ExW will get as it involves no thought on her part about what her Ex would actually appreciate!
Good Luck OP. Try not to over think this. Your partner will appreciate the thought even if his ex gets something too.

Depends truly on how long you two have been together and how does he react to gifting you on special occasion.

Hmmm going against the grain I wouldn't. Why do you think the ex wouldnt get anything? Has this happened before?

I live with my DP and we are having his DD on fathers day but I wont get anything for her as she will do that with her mum. I'd feel like I was treading on toes.

Similarly,I wouldnt expect my ex's new girlfriend to get him something from my children as I take my children out to choose something for their Dad.

Thanks for all your replies! Ex didnt get him anything last year which is why I'm worried he will have nothing again this year. We dont have DS until Father's Day so making a card with him (which I wanted to do!) Is going to be very tricky 😔 I like the idea of getting him something personalised, he would definitely appreciate that! Thank you all xx

If she got nothing last year then I would definitely do something this year. He will appreciate the thought. It is also teaching you DSS that on Father's Day you give something to daddy to say thanks for everything.

To make it special for your dss I’d recommend when he arrives asking your dp to disappear for half an hour just so his son can hand make him a card, it will only take 10 mins :)
