Moving in with partner

Hi everyone. Advise needed. Divorced about 6 years ago. Judge said FMH had to be sold. Ex still hasn’t sold and court don’t really want to enforce it. Been living with family for 3 years but outstayed welcome. Lost everything in divorce so cannot afford own place. Partner of 5 years will not allow me to move in with her until FMH sold. Is this reasonable or do you think this is an excuse not to live together.

I can see why she is saying that as she doesn't want the situation to go on forever with her having to be responsible for housing both of you and paying for it.
Its a reasonable request and if you want to live with your partner you will have to get the house sold.

Yes I agree it needs to be sold. I have had to go back to court to get it revalued and because she wasn’t making an effort to sell but they are not interested

She is definately being sensible and protecting herself. You need to push whoever it takes to get that house sold if you are serious about living with her.

Yes the house is on the market. Originally dragged her feet after the court order made, back to court, the put on for 50k too much and wouldn’t get it revalued. Back to court and they ordered a fresh valuation. An offer which was on the low side but point blank refusal rather than negotiating. Since then cancelled viewings etc. Thanks everyone for your advice

You could always suggest to your ex-wife that you will need to move back into the house, presumably you still have the right to. Might galvanise some activity.
