Hi - my children have been at their dad's all weekend and the older one has just rung to tell me that ex bought younger one, who is 12 year old, a game called Far Cry. I've looked at the blurb and it's an 18 and looks pretty gory. I feel p*ssed off and concerned about him watching something too grown up for him. Am I overreacting? Does anyone know about this game?

Its a first person role playing game. There's several games in a series, up to 5 I think. There's guns, knives, but the blood and violence is not that explicit - video games tend to be held to a higher standard than movies. At 12, I'm sure he'll be fine. You can watch previews of the games on youtube if you want to make your own mind up.

I’d say it’s pretty violent but not something I would worry too much about. As previous poster says, look on YouTube and make up your own mind.

Agree with PP, as far as games go it isn't a gory one. I'd be more concerned if it was red dead redemption or call of duty (world war 2), the later I found harrowing and I'm in my late 20s...

Ok, thanks very much all, much appreciated. I did have another look and basically agree...it's not great but it doesn't look too harrowing in small (ish) doses. I'm not a gamer and am out of touch with games so wanted a dose of reality from people who know about this stuff. Thanks again for the info x
