My boss and his wife remarried 15 years ago & are still together. My colleague has lived with her ex husband happily for the last 10 years after 10 years apart.

It happens, but it's rare. Sometimes people just need to 'grow up' a bit or do something the other really doesn't want to (live overseas etc) but the vast majority of the time the (sometime underlying) reasons you split up will still be there. It's not uncommon to still fancy them or love them, but if love wasn't enough the first time (and it's generally not) what makes you think it will be this time?
