Lockdown: When will we be allowed to see family?

I am getting used to not going to work, obviously not going out and no holidays. But like everyone else I imagine, I am really missing my parents/siblings. After opinions here...when do you think it'll be acceptable to see family you don't live with again?

I went to 'see' my Mum when I dropped of some shopping for her. I sat on the garden wall and she opened the window. I will see her again next time I go for her but I ring her everyday so still feel connected.

It's not forever and one day it'll be over, it's a small price to pay.

Many, many weeks.

inflam · 04/04/2020 08:38

You can go see them and stay 2m away.

Confused why are so many people not getting it Hmm

OP, I think it will be longer then the 12 weeks people have been told to sheild for tbh.

At least a month after people finally get the message and follow the letter and the spirit of the guidance. So a while yet.

It's strange that it's possible (but rarely happens) we, personally have been 12 weeks without seeing certain family before, but now we definitely can't, and it's a particularly worrying time, it feels like a lifetime. My DH family had a family party at the end of feb literally weeks before it all got super-serious here. We were all hugging and kissing, I'm really glad we saw everybody then.

Likely another month from now op. It will be extended for three weeks max after this three week lock down, and then some restrictions lifted with social distancing measures in place.

The economy can’t stay shut down. I don’t think they even want to do it for that long, but In another month we will be through the peak and out the other side.

However social events and venues, flying etc, will all be off for the considerable future, and the shielded group will have to remain shielded.

So it’s likely by early may you’ll be able to see them, but be asked to maintain a distance when you do.

I live overseas and only see my family (apart from my husband and kids) every 4 years. This time seems so much worse, and I am even more sad that when it is over I still can't go and see them and hug them, and with the way airlines are going I have no idea when we will even be able to afford such travel.

@inflam I haven’t even left my house for 3 weeks so I do get it. If you live near to family abs you walk past their house and they happen to be in their garden you can speak to them

futuremrsconnor85 · 04/04/2020 09:07

Thank you for all your replies Smile I have no intention of seeing them until lockdown is lifted,I just miss them!

As some people seem incapable of following the regulations, I would imagine the lockdown is going to be in place another couple of months minimum.

What bit of ‘stay at home’ do people not understand?

Out clearly don't because you said 'You can go see them and stay 2m away'

Which is NOT the case.

Hold on... three times this week for 30 min we have gone for a bike ride with the DC. They are struggling as both normally do prob 12 hours activity after school. They can't sleep. If we go for some exercise it feels like someone will report us ....

Dery · 05/04/2020 00:31

@bombaychef - people are allowed out for 1 hour’s exercise a day as long as they observe social distancing. So 30 min bike rides are fine. Of course it might change - the govt might decide it needs to restrict the right to go out for exercise - but it’s the position at the moment and indeed is encouraged because exercise helps keep people’s spirits up.
