Sometimes you need a thread that reminds you love does exist.

Mine is: on our second date he brought a pair of pliers with him because I’d told him I’d snapped my shower hose and couldn’t get the bloody thing off. He came in, fixed the shower and then took me to dinner. And he never once mentioned how untidy my bathroom was!

He drove 140 miles each way to see me for about 12 hours ... he's so considerate unlike exh!

Defrosts the car
Cooks for me and DS every night
On numerous occasions has gone out in all weathers to get my favourite drink/snack
Rides the wave of my mental illness with no complaints
Whisks new away for surprise breaks in my favourite places
Remembers the most incidental things I mention and then acts upon them
Tickles my feet on request
Tucks me up in bed if I’m up later than him
Makes me breakfast every weekend
Is the most lovely, generous and supportive partner I could wish for. He’s an amazing step dad to DS and DDog.

This thread is making me smile!

He went and visited my grandad unprompted on his birthday because I was on night shift and couldn’t go and see him and knew I was disappointed at not seeing him on his birthday.

On our wedding day he secreted a plate of food away in our room because he knew I hadn’t eaten anything from the evening buffet. When I got to bed and complained (as he knew I would) that I was starving he whipped it out and presented it to me. Better than any sex I’ve ever had that plate of food 😂

He puts all of the kids stuff in his diary so knows when it’s none uniform day or when they need to take cooking stuff in, often only telling me he’s dealt with it when I send a text mid morning along the lines of ‘Oh shit I forgot....’

So many other things but these are the ones that come straight to mind. He is ace.

He’s generally kind and very considerate, but a few things stand out.

I had a panic attack the first time well maybe the first three/four times we attempted to have sex. Didn’t freak out or visibly panic despite being manhandled a bit aggressively by me.

We were going to have our first child free night since early December on valentines day. My son decided that would be the perfect moment to take a tumble down the stairs of my flat. He broke his arm and he was being sick so I had to stay over night with him. I’m a panicker and I don’t cope well with stress, so I arrived at hospital with nothing. My boyfriend brought things for my son to keep him entertained, pjs etc and an over night bag for me. He also brought me food, weighed it and wrote all of the carb contents (I’m a type 1 diabetic). When we eventually got home at around midday on Saturday he’d cleaned the kitchen, done laundry, a bit of shopping and bought my son a new toy. He sent me to bed, minded my son and woke me up with pancakes in bed when I had managed to get a few hours sleep. Boy did good.

Not a story as such, but my DH makes me a cup of tea every morning. He also buys me these stupidly expensive yoghurts whenever he sees them because they aren't sold in many places and he knows I love them. They're so fancy they come in a ceramic pot.
He also buys me scampi fries for the same reason!
He drives me fucking insane sometimes but is genuinely a good egg Grin.

RingGirl · 04/03/2020 17:05

We’d seen a ring in the window of a jewellery shop in oxford when we went there for a weekend. I really liked it (not as an engagement ring, just as a ring) but wasn’t expecting him to buy it for me and the shop was shut when we walked past it the next day anyway.

Weeks and weeks later I had been on a weekend trip with the school I worked at, and when he came to pick me up he had the ring with him. He’d called them on the Monday after we’d seen it and tried to buy it over the phone but they wouldn’t post it. So he waited until I was away and then drove to oxford and back just to get it, 6 hour round trip Blush

My DD and I were booked on a train to London to see Ed Sheeran that night, we were stopping at a hotel in Greenwich. We missed the train by seconds at Liverpool due to a dodgy Uber driver, DP (now DH) drove us up to London and literally straight to the door of our hotel at Greenwich and then turned round and drove all the way back again - an 8 hour round trip on a Bank Holiday - to save me paying twice for the train, he wouldn't accept petrol money only a coffee and a muffin 😍

Nutkin123 · 04/03/2020 17:31

When my pop (darling grandfather) died, my boyfriend of 2 months drove me all the way back to my hometown (2 hours away) and dropped me off with my family. He didn't come in the house as he "didn't want to get in the way" - he then picked me up four days later. He is a very kind man and we're getting married next year Smile

What a lovely thread. I’m so happy that on a board where all we hear about is cheating bastards, there are these stories of love, loyalty and genuinely nice people.

Everyone should be able to experience these types of partners.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/03/2020 18:57

Mine is a superstar. He really is.

Brings me a cuppa in bed every Saturday after a lie in because no get up early on my working days. Does extra TOMM housework to make my days easier. Always good for a big bear hug and makes me laugh at myself.

Lots of little things.

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 04/03/2020 19:22

He came to find me at college to ask me out. Good job I needed the loo and saw him in the foyer. Wink there are other things I could say about him but I might out myself.
