Help to leave

Okay so I think i need to leave my husband. A lot has happened too much to go into but it isn’t a healthy relationship and I can’t trust him at all anymore. We have been together for 10 years married for 2 this year. We have a mortgage together and 3 boys. I am about to be made redundant in June and I have just hit the unpaid bit of my maternity leave.
I have no idea what steps to take, who to talk to or how to move forward. Everyone says to get your ducks in a row before so I’m asking what do I need to do? I’m terrified of being left with no home and no money with 3 kids to try and feed. Any advice welcome

Check out the CABx guide to Ending a Relationship. Laws vary so check the info relevant to your area.

The Gingerbread website has calculators and lots of info on benefits, maintenance, child contact and they have a good helpline as well.

You can find a Family Law solicitor here.

I have been asking this same question on here and not really gor much advice unfortunately. I am currently just squirrelling money away in a separate account. I have also looked into how much I would be entitled benefits wise. @12345kbm has given some helpful advice. Good luck. Sorry I can't give more help.

Hi OP. You may be surprised at how much you would be entitled to. Will you get a large redundancy lump sum? This may affect your benefits.
Unfortunately because you jointly own your home, you cannot force your DH to move out. Could he afford the mortgage alone if you did?
Its hard to advise without more information really.
Would you look to move out, or expect him to?
If you moved out, would your redundancy cover deposit on a rental?
Does your husband work? If so, he would have to pay maintenance to you for the children.
Do you think he will make things difficult when you tell him?

One thing to be careful of, if you have a joint account then make sure he doesn't get the chance to empty it if he finds out you want to split up!

People talk about taking photos of or copies of paperwork like his bank statements or wage slips so he can’t pretend he is skint when it’s time to get money from him via the courts etc.

Whose name is the house in and is it rented or bought?
