Hi, first time posting on here. I've been with my boyfriend for 9 years this year and on the 29th of feb I am wanting to propose to him as I've heard this is the time when a woman can propose (I know I could do it any time but I kind of like this idea) when I get him his ring do i buy my own or will he get it? Thanks for any advice

Honestly do whatever you'd like.

EASUYA · 28/01/2020 21:15

I think if you propose you don't get an engagement ring, men don't get one when they propose. Out of interest are you sticking to the 3 months salary tradition?

claracluck78 · 28/01/2020 21:17

When did it jump to 3 months salary on a ring?!

RaininSummer · 28/01/2020 21:20

Hope your proposal goes well. I have never known a man to wear an engagement ring though. Never really thought about what a woman actually does about that part if they propose in a traditional way. Maybe a whole different way of proposing is needed if you cant wave a ring at him.

OccasionalNachos · 28/01/2020 21:24

There aren’t any rules, OP. Will he want/wear an engagement ring?

Sunflowersok · 28/01/2020 22:28

I’ve known plenty of men to wear engagement rings!

I’d get him one, I like the romance of it all Flowers

FiveTwoFaster · 28/01/2020 22:32

My friend proposed to her boyfriend with a watch with an inscription. He wore it straight away then they went ring shopping. She didn’t care about rings but got a not very expensive pearl ring to show she was engaged and now just wears her wedding ring. Reg Office wedding, pub for 30 people, really fun, happy occasion.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 28/01/2020 22:36

I did it 8 years ago op!!! I bought him a ring, went out for a drink with his mum to ask her premission (I wanted to do back to front traditional)

I only got my wedding band and an eternity ring last year when I had ds, he keeps his engagement ring on his keys as he hates wearing rings. It cost me £150 and has a small single diamond inset.

Blondebakingmumma · 29/01/2020 04:32

I proposed with a zip tie made into a ring as hubby loves them 😂

Starfish25 · 29/01/2020 12:53

Thank you everyone for a reply. I've not heard about the 3 month salary tradition? I dont think I'll be sticking to that one. I would like to get him a ring, he doesn't have any at the moment. I think I'll do us a nice meal when our lb is in bed then I'll pop the question and hopefully he doesn't shoot me down 😂

@Starfish25 out of interest are you still going ahead with this tomorrow?

MikeUniformMike · 28/02/2020 17:42

Traditionally, if you ask a man to marry you on 29th Feb, he can't say no.
I've got my eye on you, young man in one of the shops I go into Wink.

It is one month's salary, not 3. The diamond thing was dreamt up by jewellers, and value-wise engagement rings are not investments.

Weenurse · 29/02/2020 01:02

😀💍

Plancina · 29/02/2020 08:48

I’m doing this tonight - I got a wedding ring which I had engraved, I thought he could wear it now, wear it on the other hand or just keep it until we get married and wear it then! I hope he says yes, am so nervous! Grin

anotherdisaster · 29/02/2020 09:59

Good luck OP, can't wait for an update!

Meggymoo777 · 29/02/2020 10:31

Good luck, let us know how it goes! 🤞🏻

Meggymoo777 · 29/02/2020 10:32

Good luck to @Plancina too! 👍🏻

rainbowstardrops · 29/02/2020 10:34

Good luck to both of you! 🤞🏻

annabell22 · 29/02/2020 13:23

I did this four years ago - we have our 4th wedding anniversary in June!

MoggyP · 29/02/2020 13:27

The 'one month's salary' is a De Beers advertising slogan.

No idea how the inflation in the marketing took place!

Chihaha · 29/02/2020 13:29

Aaaah I hope it goes well for you both! So sweet!

drcb83 · 29/02/2020 13:34

I got mine a star map ring, it has the stars in the sky where we got engaged at that time. Even if daylight she can do it as the stars are there - you just cannot see them. This is it - and it is completely jnique to you and your exact time and place.

@drcb83 that is stunning! I got a plain ring but it has a special quote written inside it. I am so nervous for this evening - he is at work so just killing time until we meet later, I’ve booked a table at the restaurant where we went on our first date and he thinks we are meeting friends there but really it’s just me Grin good luck! Please let us know how you get on

maybelou · 29/02/2020 21:17

ohh good luck OP!!!

CatpissEverdine · 29/02/2020 21:41
