Hey everyone!

I've made a few posts about my situation. I just have to vent again! my husband is an absolute maniac!! to be honest I'm now laughing at this as I know I don't have much longer left to put up with his nonsense!

so he is very health conscious which is great, as am I. He has took it to new extremes in my eyes though. watching youtube docs and reading stuff online about diet, conspiracy theories about medication etc.

so anyway , I was writing a list for food shopping and the kids wanted mince and potatoes for dinner, I started writing that down then he pipes up “ do you really want to feed the kids cancer meat ?” I was like what?? That’s what he calls red meat now. I mean everyone is aware red meat isn’t the best for you but I wouldn’t be calling it that. So anyway, he's going on about “ cancer meat” and how he doesn’t want to feed the kids that rubbish and that it should be a weekend treat or something along the lines of that. I couldn’t be arsed with an argument so just said fine. So I go do the shopping, get home and he looks at this Tupperware that he asked me to buy. He was analysing the small writing on the box, in my head I’m like okkkk. So he then says “ aw I cant use this, it isn’t the right type of plastic.”

WTF

So I cant even buy Tupperware correctly?? Supposedly it had to be a certain type of plastic as normal plastic is bad for you as when heated up you can ingest it.
Seriously, how have I put up with so long of this absolute nonsense?? I just kind of laughed and said ok I’ll use it.
God help any woman he finds after me, theywill have a hard job trying to please him!

how he doesn’t want to feed the kids that rubbish

Well, he can toddle along the shops, do the shopping, and cook and serve up whatever he likes for the kids then, can't he?

TwentyViginti · 27/01/2020 12:19

So his obsessions are escalating to a controlling degree and impacting you and DC? Not surprised you want out!

Musti · 27/01/2020 12:23

I know quite a lot of people who have similar concerns and they aren't crazy, just want to make sure they eat stuff that isn't harmful. I thought all plastics that had to do with food were bpa free now anyway?

But agree with peeps, he should get involved in doing the shopping etc not just expect you to do it.

LCScotmum · 27/01/2020 12:31

yeah, I mean I feel I can be quite conscious of stuff but in my eyes he is just too extreme. he doesn't agree that antibiotics should be used unless someone is borderline dying. everything is just so extreme with him. before I would have pandered to it I think.

in his defence he is good with the shopping and will help with that, more for control though I think.

it really did make me laugh inside though cause he just has to control every single thing in life it is draining! I personally don't know how he can be arsed.

OP posts:
Scarsthelot · 27/01/2020 12:47

It does sound like its escalated.

But I know lots of people that wont use BPA free containers. That's not that unusual.

You need to tell him he needs to start doing the shopping and cooking and buy his own Tupperware

Equanimitas · 27/01/2020 13:17

If he really thinks red meat is cancer meat, how on earth does he justify having it as a "treat"?

YouJustDoYou · 27/01/2020 13:19

Well he can go do the fucking shopping and plan it all then instead of pulling sadface at all the "wrong" things you're doing.

LCScotmum · 27/01/2020 14:07

Exactly!

it as escalated overall yes but I think that is partially because I've realised the way he has been acting isn't right.

the mince and plastic thing obviously is just a silly personality trait about him that I cant stand. I just feel now that I've realised what I want which is to leave ( currently waiting on housing) that I just don't have the patience to put up with how particular he is about certain things.

grrrr its funny how you can live years with a person and then suddenly you cant get far enough away.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 27/01/2020 14:11

He's orthorexic though I won't store fatty food in BPA plastic either

Delbelleber · 27/01/2020 14:36

He's not crazy. He's more aware than most people.

user1497873278 · 27/01/2020 14:40

No he’s controlling end of

LCScotmum · 27/01/2020 14:45

I've never heard of orthorexic before, i'll have to look it up.

lyingwanker · 27/01/2020 15:06

How is eating "cancer meat" a treat?!

LCScotmum · 27/01/2020 15:17

I have no idea. yeah eat red meat every so often but he is acting like I force feed them raw steak Confused . I mean I agree on certain things such as being more aware of what we are consuming, the harmful things in some of our food etc, I even get the plastic thing. its not what hes doing per say its the way he goes about it. going on and on and on and obsessing over things.

yeah calling it cancer meat also, abit dramatic if I don't say so myself . he does the same thing with antibacterial spray. he says I overuse it which I know for certain I don't. he calls it antibiotic spray and says its killing the kids immune systems and they will end up unwell.

infact one of his last verbal attacks when he was drunk ( yes he can put alcohol in his system shock horror) was about that.

I'm just frustrated with it all today.

OP posts:
AlexaAmbidextra · 27/01/2020 15:31

I agree with him about all this antibacterial shit. It isn’t necessary.

Nofoolfornoone · 27/01/2020 15:35

I dated a guy once who wouldn’t drink tap water or eat anything that had been microwaved. I actually used to boil veg in volic until one day I thought “f this”

Pinkbonbon · 27/01/2020 15:37

Isn't it more Bacon and ham ect that is 'cancer meat?' I mean they don't add the same preservatives to steak ect do they? And surely the the goodness of the iron outweighs a few preservatives anyway.

Tell him if he wants to buy it and cook dinner he can make what he likes, otherwise, mince all round!

lazylinguist · 27/01/2020 15:40

Point out to him that alcohol is leliterally a poison and that recent research shows that even very moderate drinking increases your cancer risk. Maybe say "Oh are you having some more of your cancer drink" next time he has alcohol.

I agree with him about the antibac spray though.

LCScotmum · 27/01/2020 15:53

I agree with over use of antibacterial spray, I definitely don't over use it. it annoys me that he calls it antibiotic spray and that im killing our children, I see it as a over exaggeration.

he only drinks tap water ( we are in Scotland) and we aren't allowed a microwave which tbh doesn't annoy me too much, its the being told we are not getting one and I don't have a say in it.

yeah bacon and ham are worse but I think red meat in general is just worse for you. My kids are so fussy so if they want to eat that with some hidden veggies I'm happy but instead they will have a vegan meal of some kind and more than likely not touch a piece of it or there will be a fight to get them too.

yeah alcohol is awful and he knows that too. when he drinks its to excess and I mean EXCESS, he doesn't have addiction issues or anything but he definitely doesn't know when to say no to it on a night out. he actually got gout as a result but he has it under control now.

im just frustrated as hell right now.

OP posts:
lyingwanker · 27/01/2020 18:32

I think he's got the right ideas with a lot of the stuff but your problem (and most peoples) would be that he's way OTT and militant about it.

I'm sure he'd change his tune if you started ranting on about his "cancer drinks" or started making the whole family wear surgical masks everywhere to avoid pollution.

TigerDater · 27/01/2020 18:49

My XH was /is just like this OP, it became a nightmare because it was basically controlling but now I just laugh at the memory. Ironically I also now agree with nearly all his points eg overuse of antibiotics but I’m doing so in my own time and in my own way, not because some jumped up twat is telling me to!

Yeahnah2020 · 28/01/2020 09:32

Why no microwave? He obviously has no real idea.

Thatnameistaken · 28/01/2020 11:23

So the rules don't apply to him (alcohol ) great.
You say you're laughing because you don't have to put up with his nonsense much longer, are you making moves to LTB?

LCScotmum · 28/01/2020 11:49

yeah I am. The whole meat and plastic thing is just something that annoyed me, he has serious issues that have broke me and our marriage. Hes emotionally abused me for years , it took me far too long to realise this though. I'm in the middle of making arrangements to leave.
