So after two plus years of online dating, I'm done...

Can I hear your stories of meeting someone organically?

Not looking right now but love hearing how people meet each other 😊

I met my husband at work. Through friends is another good way.

sosickofthisshit · 12/01/2020 19:41

We live in the same building 😂. Met in the car park when I had a flat tyre, which he very kindly helped me with. I wasnt even looking for anyone, since separating from my exh 2 years ago, and I have never used online dating. It can happen when you least expect it.

Met DH at a new years eve party of a mutual friend. We both lived in different cities, so I never thought it would lead anywhere and basically had a two night stand (booked a local hotel!)

January 2nd thought that was it, but then he asked to come visit me the following weekend in my city. Things moved pretty fast and he moved to be with me a few months later. That was ten years ago!

Always through work and hobbies. Got to know them as friends/colleagues first and then moved on to "proper" dating.

Never went on a date with someone I met in a pub or club or any other social setting at all, come to think of it.

Then again, I've never gone for looks alone, and have always wanted to get to know someone before embarking down the relationship road.

work. working at the same shop. 15 years later all still good fingers crossed.

PanamaPattie · 12/01/2020 19:53

I was introduced to DH by a work colleague as we waited for a bus. Romantic!

LunaLovesgood · 12/01/2020 20:01

Got chatting in the smoking area of a pub when my drunken self plonked down next to him on his friends bench because my feet hurt Grin We ended up swapping numbers and the next day he took me for a MacDonalds to help my hangover. So romantic Hmm

I met a veryyyy good looking man walking past the gym last week. I'm "dating" (didn't tell him that though) but whew! (Think Richard Blackwood) Took his number instead of giving him mines. He spoke to me first and I'm sure I had a face like thunder at first glance but he still stopped me to talk. It can happen any and everywhere I believe.

Stillsexystillsingle · 12/01/2020 20:23

I do get men talking to me in the street, in supermarkets and at bus stops...I have my eye on one of the men at work I need to be brave and ask him out !

whiteroseredrose · 12/01/2020 20:34

Cocktail bar. I was celebrating my promotion and my now DH was the flatmate of one of my colleagues.

Moose42 · 12/01/2020 20:43

DH was a friend of a work colleague. The colleague was fairly new and brought a couple of his friends on work nights out, I guess in case he wasn’t enjoying it so he could just go off with people he knew. I became friends with the colleague, and started spending time with his social group. Took a while but me and DH chatted more and more and discovered that despite being very different in terms of personality, we still had loads in common. We were very lucky to have met in real life to be honest, because I think I’m way too shy and awkward for online dating, and I think DH would be way too impatient for it.

Zoflorabore · 12/01/2020 20:49

October 98- age 20, met a nice guy in the local pub who offered to help me with my drinks. Both single. He was shy. I am not and made it clear I liked him, nothing happened.

November 98- same pub. At a quiz night with my parents and neighbours and the guy on the next table told me the answer to a music question. We won the quiz! He walked me home and that was the beginning of a 7 year relationship. He is ds’s dad, now almost 17.

Guy 1 is the proud daddy if dd who is almost 9, it took us forever to get together but eventually did.

Pub is now shut down Grin

ToastandCheese · 12/01/2020 20:58

Through work. We were both with other people but were attracted to each other (nothing happened). Split up with our partners without knowing each other had done so, and that was it!

redexpat · 12/01/2020 21:02

At a girl guide center. He's a scout.

AudTheDeepMinded · 12/01/2020 21:05

Moved to a new county and new job in 2002. Found a houseshare with two other lodgers, the landlord and his girlfriend. DH was one of the other lodgers. Married since 2010 with three children. I still remember telling friends about the other lodgers (both male) and about how strange they were and that there were no romantic prospects!

litterbird · 12/01/2020 21:05

I had been on OLD for 4 years and exhausted from it. I gave up Spring last year. Someone I was introduced to 18 years ago and we kept in touch via Facebook invited me to one of his gigs out the blue on the guest list. I went, hadn’t seen him for 18 years and by the time I drove home after the gig (couldn’t get near him after due to fans wanting to speak to him) he had messaged me to ask me out on a date. We’ve been together since July last year, he is upstairs right now composing his next album. For those who think love can never be found after a certain age think again. I am 55 he is 63 ❤️

SimonJT · 12/01/2020 21:44
  1. We were housemates and friend for years
  2. In a bar
  3. Not real life, but we were matched by a dating agency
rosajosephine · 13/01/2020 15:52

Lots of different places, I need to get out more...

@litterbird that's lovely ❤️
