Occupation Orders

Posting for my MIL who is in the process of getting out of an abusive relationship (emotional, financial and physical). Police are involved.

They are not married but own a house jointly. She moved in with us briefly but he was throwing away her possessions, changing the locks, being a general bastard etc.

Has she got any chance of applying for an occupation order to get him out of the house? I'm clueless as to how they work but someone has mentioned it to her.
