Am I too sensitive?

DH is on the whole a loving dad and is as proud as I am of DS's achievements, of which there are many, DS being all of 9mths old. But he can say some strange things which makes me wonder if we are different planets when it comes to DS. For example, when I said DS was looking very cute (all the time IMO but just particularly so at the time) he said, "But xxx is better-looking". And recently he said DS was "retarded" as he had only just learnt to clap at 10mths. Said in a sarcastic, I'm really joking way but still - is this normal for dads? Shouldn't they be as besotted as we are??? Or is DH more detached than the norm?

We call ds 'Whinestein' because he winges so much! People must think that we are so horrible! Having said that, I also call him lots of other lovely names, so I'm sure that he will not get a complex!

Chinchilla, DH calls DS "rattus rattus", "rattite" (an injoke that one for NZ'ers) and also JarJar (after the starwars character)- the latter bugs me the most. As a result, I'm referred to as "mother rat". Lucky DS doesn't talk yet...

We call my daughter, depending on satanic or dictatorish mood, either Damienetta of Benita (sorry to person I know who may be offended ). I must admit, I do tend to be depracating about my daughter, but not too her, because I am so conscious of trying not to come across as a boastful mother.

Once I met the 'comedian' Chris Morris and was interested to hear him call his two children 'Satan' and 'Beelzebub'.
