DP pleasantly surprised me, what have your DP's done to make you happy recently?

Hi all,

First time poster but long time lurker for a variety of things.

I am currently 31 + 4 with first child and DP can be somewhat obtuse to my feelings sometimes. Pregnancy has gone quite smoothly but yesterday we had a bit of a scare as the baby hadn't moved. I also have a very high pressured job and went there straight from hospital, broke down in tears and ended up having to leave and spend some time at home. Baby is fine but my anxiety hasn't subsided and I've been in tears all day.

DP goes to the gym 6 days a week and I normally don't mind. Today whilst I was on the sofa crying he comes down in his gym gear, gives me a kiss and pretends to head off. I was a bit gutted because I obviously just needed a bit of TLC, but I'm quite closed off so he doesn't always know when he's needed. To my surprise he turns up 15 minutes later having gone to the stop and has returned with flowers, sweets, facemasks and all of the makings of just having a nice lazy sofa day. I cried I was so thankful as somehow he just knew what I needed.

This thread can sometimes seem a bit doom and gloom so I wondered if anyone wanted to share some stories on how their DPs/DHs have really gone out of their way to cheer you up?

Have a great day all.

I'd had a pretty bad day at work last Wednesday, and was generally just feeling a bit drained. My lovely girlfriend arrived with a massive bar of galaxy, a brand new snuggly dressing gown and some new slippers! She's an absolute gem! I don't know why I wasted so many years on a man Grin

tinyvulture · 11/10/2019 17:18

It’s a tiny thing but, last weekend, I had set the alarm early as I was taking my dd and her friend out and needed to get the train (I don’t drive). When the alarm went off, BF said, don’t worry, I’ll drive you all, giving me another hour or so in bed! I was knackered, so it made a big difference.....

Crimearino · 11/10/2019 18:00

@B00kworm86 your girlfriend sounds so lovely!

Goes to show gender doesn't matter, it's just important so be with someone who makes you happy.

One child puked this morning - just as we were getting ready to leave. He took one to school, I dealt with the poorly one and he went to the shop to get supplies after work.

Not glamorous but shows this nature. My ex never would have "helped" even with his own child.

DP is working away a lot between now and next June generally 3 weeks home, 2 weeks away and so on which as we are already in a LDR is going to be hard (I know it could be a lot worse before anyone says anything) the nature of his job coupled with time differences also means he can barely speak to me in that time he is away.
Last week as he was in the middle of his first trip away, I was sat at work and a box of beautiful flowers were brought over to me which he had ordered. I couldn't stop grinning for the rest of the day Grin He is the most un romantic person and can never keep a surprise but I was truly gobsmacked!

grecianurn82 · 11/10/2019 20:20

I've been feeling really down the last few days, my anxiety has started up again. My girlfriend stayed last night and after she left for work this morning I saw that she had left perfume and a gorgeous frame on my pillow.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 11/10/2019 20:21

He bought some wellies for DS that he needed for tomorrow and I'd totally forgotten. I was about to lose my shit and panic when he told me he'd got some in his lunch hour.

I'd had a really hard week trying to be super Mummy and this was just one thing that I didn't have to do! God love him!

Sugary · 11/10/2019 20:34

@Crimearino. What is the podcast? I’m trying to find it but can’t. I love a good listen. 🙂

inthethickofit19 · 11/10/2019 20:35

He offered to sleep with the baby tonight (who is v unsettled overnight) despite being up with our toddler every day this week. He drives as part of his job, sometimes 40 miles each away so it's important he sleeps but I can't manage both so he always deals with the toddler

Crimearino · 11/10/2019 20:43

@Sugary I'm not sure which one you want but some recommendations are: true crime: serial (the case against Adnan Syed), cold (the best one for me, about disappearance of Susan Powell) and my favourite murder.

Sugary · 11/10/2019 21:03

@crimearino. Thanks. What is the one that your user name refers to? I like the look of Cold and I’ve listened to Serial (Adnan Syed’s) which I really enjoyed.

Crimearino · 11/10/2019 21:06

@sugary that one is 'My Favourite Murder' which is excellent and great well humoured hosts.

I would also give Last Podcast on The Left a mention, especially their much later stuff. They do some really fantastic episodes on certain cults, but the humour (three men present - chat style) takes a little getting used to as it's a bit in your face but I enjoyed it after listening to a few and getting to understand the hosts a bit more.

formerbabe · 11/10/2019 21:08

He bought me a car...nothing flash but it's made my life so much easier and I'm so grateful.

Sugary · 11/10/2019 21:17

@Crimearino, thanks!

SimonJT · 11/10/2019 21:24

I had been moaning on the phone earlier in the week that ny

SimonJT · 11/10/2019 21:27

(Ah pressed post by accident!)

Lets try again

I had been moaning that my weight bar grips had gone soft and I couldn’t find the same replacement grip. He had managed to track some down and brought them round today. I really didn’t deserve them as I had made a huge fuss over nothing about the bloody grips.

MrsJonesAndMe · 12/10/2019 06:34

Good to read of all of these. So easy to focus on all the negatives.

Good luck with the babies due, ladies.

Mrsmummy90 · 12/10/2019 06:51

He's had a very rare week off work and has gotten up with our 20mo dd every morning so that I can rest with our 10 week old.

I haven't had a full night's sleep in 2 years so it's made all the difference!

MrsMozartMkII · 12/10/2019 06:54

Lovely stories. It is indeed hard sometimes to focus on the good bits.

Mine went above and beyond - putting up a security box for a battery and energiser (electric fencing for horses), only the box itself becomes electrified and the instructions were in German... Poor chap got zapped but kept going until it was up and running. Bloody star Wine

Lollypalooza · 12/10/2019 07:21

Yesterday I got back from DD’s (age 5) swimming lesson and realised I’d left her swimming costume hanging up in changing room. I rang the pool and they went to check changing room and lost property and said it wasn’t there. I wouldn’t mind but it had her very first swimming badge (10 metres) sewn in it Sad DP (who isn’t DD’s Dad but is just fab with her) has been online and ordered an identical badge ready to sew onto new costume Smile
