Partners with annoying habits?

I am not sure if my DH has always done this to some extent, or if just over the years it has got worse or if it’s just only now started to annoy me, but it’s his nail biting.

If we are sitting watching the telly or reading-he will be biting or picking his nails all of the time-I mean continually-for hours. I’ll sit and not say anything for a bit but it just doesn’t stop and ends up with his hand contorted in his mouth-sometimes there are slurping noises! If he’s not biting, he’s picking at them. The noise just goes right through me. It is all the time.

If he was scratching due to eczema or something, I would be sympathetic, but he’s just incessantly biting and picking till his hands are sore.

It’s like sitting next to someone at the cinema with a clicky pen who clicks all through the film. I feel myself getting more and more tense and then say-‘please, stop it will you!!’ He does for a bit, then it starts again.

Am I being unreasonable?? What can I do??
