Me and my lovely partner are getting married next March in Liverpool, it will just be us at the wedding as we want to keep it private and tell everyone afterwards, the issue is, how do we get witnesses for the wedding? Anyone else have this issue? Or can anyone help out on the day!?

We asked our two best friends ..no one else knew. Also you could just pull two random people off the street bet they would love to help you get married. There was 4 of us at my wedding ..me him and one of his friends and one of mine.It was perfect and if i had to I would do the same again!!All that;s required is a signature from the witnesses and 15 mins of their time...Good luck Hope you have a lovely wedding day

anothernewone · 08/10/2019 19:04

If you post the date you might get some mumsnetters offering?

WhoKnewBeefStew · 08/10/2019 19:18

The registry office sorted our white saws. Two girls from the office. Apparently it's a common thing

Emmiel27 · 29/01/2020 17:02

Hi, sorry it's been a while, been sorting out some other things and then Christmas came along!!!! We are getting married in Liverpool at George's hall on march 26th at 1030 if I can be cheeky and see if anyone fancies being a witness, I can offer you our gratitude and a little bit of something.....and hopefully a fun 20 mins or so!!!:-)

Oh fabulous!! I was a witness to a fellow mumsnetter last summer. It was a great experience. I'd encourage anyone to do it if they're nearby.

NewAndImprovedNorks · 29/01/2020 17:08

I did this for a fellow mumsnetter that I didn’t know.

It was truly one of the best things I have ever done, a really happy memory

Emmiel27 · 29/01/2020 20:08

Hopefully someone may like the idea, or we might be winging it and hoping for the best on the day!!!!

We did this. The registry office hit a couple of people out of the offices to whiteness our wedding. It's quite common apparently

TheReef · 29/01/2020 20:42

Got not hit Grin

DazedandConcerned · 29/01/2020 20:53

Husband and I will do it if you'd like. He's at uni that afternoon anyway and it'll be simple for me to just come in with him.

Let me know!

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:18

I'd also do it with my husband. We live in liverpool.

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:19

What are you gong to do after the wedding op?

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:20

Dazed and op - maybe we could all go and treat you to a drink after your married!

DazedandConcerned · 29/01/2020 21:34

@TheQueenBeyondTheWall that sounds great! I'd love to treat the newlyweds to a glass of champagne!

TheQueenBeyondTheWall · 29/01/2020 21:52

I've just seen the date on this was October when originally posted.

Maybe the op has witnesses signed up already.

Op and dazed - you should both look at ex directory bar for cocktails it's a secret bar you go in through a phone box. It's really good for something different. You have to call to book though but you need to book or they won't let you in! I have the number somewhere if you can't find it.

St James street upstairs bar is lovely too. Great views. Blankets for on the terrace if it's cold. Food is gorgeous.

The revolution bar on the Albert dock is nice too. Not as messy or busy as the one on Matthew street. Get the revs app if you go there for half price cocktails SmileWine

Groupon have lots on also for meals and afternoon tea etc.

Emmiel27 · 30/01/2020 07:15

Hi, thankyou so much for the offers for witness, we don't have any witness yet and to be honest, we are getting more concerned by the day!!! That is lovely of you both to offer to be witnesses, we would love to take you up on the offer. We have to be there 15 mins before, so at 10:15 on the 26th March. We don't have plant for after, other than a meal later in the day, so a couple of drinks after sounds fun!!!!!!!Grin

I got a photographer because I wanted some half decent photos in case we didn't have the full, family wedding thought we'd have at a later date (we haven't and it's 7 yrs later) .... So I asked the photographer to be a witness and if she knew another person who could be the second. She said she'd bring a friend along who could help her with the photography as well so that's what happened.

Skyejuly · 30/01/2020 07:55

We used a celebrant and she brought her husband and a neighbour who were our witnesses.

GilbertMarkham · 30/01/2020 07:56

But I have heard of people who've just asked people passing the registry to do it - most people like the romance if it and will
do it if they gave the time.

Likewise there are often staff members around the registry (security, porters, cleaners etc) who might be able to take the relatively short time to do it. You could ask ahead at registry.

DazedandConcerned · 30/01/2020 08:02

@Emmiel27 Sounds fantastic! We'd both love to do it.

Will you have a photographer or would you like me to enlist my hubby? He isn't a professional but has done accreditations and has a good camera (never uses it... Typical man and his toys Wink )

Emmiel27 · 30/01/2020 09:11

Haha, we don't have photographer. We just doing very low key and we were just going to get a few and ask for a few people to take a few on our phones and possibly a camera, if we ended up taking one!!!

Thank you so much.....we aren't actually from Liverpool ourselves. We live the place though, and we are heading over on the train the night before to make sure we are there in time in the morning!!!!

Liverpool is an amazing city which truly welcomed us into its hearts when we moved over from Canada. And the hall is a lovely building.

I'll get him to bring his Nikon and get some lovely photos for you on the day.

Emmiel27 · 30/01/2020 13:21

You are so kind!! Thank you. Will have to confirm exact meeting point etc
