Evening OP. We're so sorry to hear about your partner's diagnosis. This board tends to be just for problems with the site so we're going to move your thread to Relationships now where you should get more responses.

Best wishes.

Erm... You stay positive, you stick with him through it all.

What is frightening you op?

doesthisonework · 06/10/2019 23:09

Sorry you are going through this. I have juat come out the other side. My advice would be: be really honest with each other about how you are feeling, forgive each other when you get cross because you are stressed, don't read anything on Google xx

Stay positive, and stay away from ghouls...those people who hang on your misery. Ask health professionals for help for you, as a potential carer. You might be entitled to a carers assessment from the local authority, and that unlocks services for you...counselling, complementary medicine, support groups...whatever you need. Cancer is stressful for loved ones, I just got my mother through a second fight with breast cancer while being ill myself...it drains you. But positive thinking and pragmatic planning does help. Go day by day, and ask for help/ respite care where you need it.

I'm in same position OP. DH has just started 7 weeks chemoradiotherapy. We have 2 DC and I work full time. DH very up and down, tired and snappy this weekend. I am shattered, physically and emotionally and scared of what's to come but at minute just trying to make his life easier with practical things, to help him sleep and eat and trying to remain positive for him. Its tough though. Do you have anyone there to help and talk to?

Willowkins · 06/10/2019 23:33

Been there done that. A lot depends on your situation but being kind to yourself covers a lot of ground.

I survived cancer op, my Oncologist told me to only look at UK sites on the internet.

It's hard on you as a partner too, is there someone you can lean on?

Do try and both get to Penny Brohn if you can - free weekend retreats/courses for cancer patients and carers. Wonderful.
