As the title says really.
I hate labels for people... but I’d spend a long time listing things otherwise to explain what I’m asking lol!

So what is your experience of being with a man that takes no responsibility, financially unstable, does bare minimum, always moaning, not much interaction with the kids, not grateful for family life etc ... all friends are low life’s who do drugs.

Do they change? Do they grow up?
I left my Dp 8 weeks ago, I guess I just need that slap in the face when I start playing with doubt. Listed above were my own experience of being with him.

Hey they never change and all they do is drain you and leave you emotionally exhausted.
Realised months down the line I did everything for him on his terms
So examples...

  • he gave up a good, financially stable job to work partime in a burger van Shock
... Which meant I had to work my life round him ALWAYS and he stank.
  • his mum always called me to see where he was... Because he was always drunk or stoned
  • he always put himself first
  • I would have to clean up his bedroom because it was vile!
  • any adult conversation he would avoid or say I was being difficult
  • said one thing and did another
  • let me down
  • got so drunk at a wedding and fell asleep dribbling Blush

The best thing that ever happened to me was he ran off with another girl who wasn't even interested in him so meant he wouldn't have to commit . I am now completely loved up with a responsible adult human being. We share the cooking and cleaning, having a joint bank account, he goes food shopping and he is utterly trustworthy and dependable.

@newday1 oh the “his mum always called me to see where he was” rang so very true in my case too. at one point his mum had a tracker on his phone!!
Grown up conversation - never... check!
Most of what you’ve said part from the burger van.
I’m studying a degree, work PT and look after our dd’s. He would go to work and his day was apparently done and finished.
I’d be lucky to come home to a nugget and chips dinner once a month...

OP I think you’re confusing the terms ‘man child’ and ‘substance abusing addict’.

You and your DC are well rid.

Just read your post and you sound like how I did 2.5 years ago. Split with my husband. He was lazy and sounds exactly like your partner although he had a full time job but would take any time off he could while I slaved away working from home with our newborn in tow.
We split up 2 years ago. He moved in with another women 18 months ago and they have a nearly 1 year old. I would love to know what he does in that house but he hasn’t changed I can tell.

Oh gosh, I feel for you OP but at least you're ready to see his crappiness Sad
When you're ready to meet someone new you'll be shocked how grown up men can be. Be warned he'll prob try to go part time.

My ex was definitely an addict and I'd say he was addicted to love/relationships but never wanted to Commit fully. He was a big weed smoker, alcohol, probably much more but I was so niave. He once actually told me I'd be more fun if I took drugs Confused

I've actually blocked out a lot from him and relationship. He was such a teenage boy in a 32 year old mans body.
He wanted to go to all night raves yawn.

Also I was heartbroken when he ran off with another girl. Not sure if they're still together but I can guarantee he would've put on the charm and got bored 6 months in.

Also my ex was pretentious and arrogant. He was a total try hard hipster. He spent all his money on pretentious tattoos and vaping.
God I cringe.
