AIBU advice on being let down

I've been dating a 44 yr old for about 2 and a half months and we decide that he would meet my children (12 & 10) today for a day out all together. Anyway he said he was going for a few drinks last night for. Friends bday and I asked that he not be hungover today and he promised he'd just have a few. He text me at 6am saying "please don't judge me but I got drunk didn't get in until 2am so can you drive today." I called him to say what time we'd be picking him up (11am) no answer to calls and texts and phoned him waiting outside his place. No answer. Went anyway just me and the kids so that I didn't let them down. Got a text at about 1:30 saying sorry he's let me down he over slept. I'm so disappointed. It would have been bad enough if it was just a date for us but he knew my kids were meeting him for the first time today and it was embarrassing and disappointing for them too. He has a child of his own so knows how significant meeting them was.

What do I do? Get rid of him? I would never have gone out drinking so much, so let before meeting his son. Advice pls

Have you noticed that he's a heavy drinker, is that why you asked him not to have a hangover today?

He got home at 2am but was still awake at 6am sending you a coherent text. Is there any reason to suppose that he didn't go home alone?
There are still lots of fish in the sea, it might be an idea to throw this one back in.

I absolutely take issue with people introducing their kids to every man they date or way too early. But I've dated lots and never introduced my children but I judged this man (obviously incorrectly but with genuine reasons) to be good enough to introduce my kids. And I didn't cancel with him this morning when he sent me the early text because I was giving him the benefit of the doubt to get himself together. Of course I didn't explain it all to my children but it was obvious he had let us down when he didn't come.

I'm annoyed with myself that the ONE time I trust someone enough this happens. I would NEVER have done this to him and his son.

He must have not given me a thought last night when he was getting drunk and rolling in late, which makes me very sad. How quickly someone can go from making you feel special to totally unimportant

He's text since saying he feels awful for letting me down but words are cheap and actions say more.

Not sure what to do now

I'm also confused about him getting in at 2, but texting you at 6?

If he was in at 2, its plenty of time to get your head down and get a decent night's sleep before an 11.00 pick up.

Does he suffer from insomnia?

Dump him. He obviously didn't care at all. When I met one of my partner's children (after a year) I was so nervous and wanted to make a good impression, it was the only thing on my mind all weekend. This bloke seems very flaky.

If he’s pushing to meet your children after two months that’s a red flag to me. And I’m surprised that you deemed it ok.
