Do you know your OH phone passwords?

I was just wondering if other people know their partner's phone passwords? My partner (together 4 years) knows mine but I don't know his. He uses his thumb print to unlock his phone and when we spoke about it recently (after he received some slightly odd texts from another woman) he made noises about how he didn't have a password on it because of this. I have Face ID on my phone but I still had to set up a back up password.

Do most people tend to know their partner's password? I don't want to snoop through his phone but not knowing makes me wonder if there is something to hide or if I just need to trust him more.

No idea what his is. He doesn't know mine either. Not for any reason other than we have never needed to know. If I need to use his phone for whatever reason I would just wave it at his face to unlock it

starfishcoffee · 27/07/2019 10:51

Yes - well, when he has one. We're very open though and DPs phone is being fixed at the moment so he just flicks through mine whenever he wants to really. Doesn't bother me.

coffeeaddiction · 27/07/2019 10:53

Yes we know each other's , not for snooping purposes but just because sometimes we will use each other's phones to put on CBeebies for our little boy and things like that .
We have nothing to hide so I see no need to keep it secret aslong as we do respect each other's privacy with messages /emails

LettuceP · 27/07/2019 10:54

We don't know each others passwords but there has never been a reason for one of us to not trust the other. I think if anything ever happened to make me suspicious and then dh refused to let me look at his phone it would be a big problem for me.

I have finger print unlock on my phone and still have to have a password as a back up. I don't know if this is the case for all phones but I can't see how you wouldn't need to have a backup incase the fingerprint doesn't work. I think he's lying to you about that.

Benjispruce · 27/07/2019 10:54

Married 23 years- no I don’t and he doesn’t know mine-we trust each other.

Fizzypoo · 27/07/2019 10:55

Yes but not for snooping, it's just not a secret. He uses my phone sometimes and I use his. 🤷‍♀️

Benjispruce · 27/07/2019 10:55

Having said that , he would tell me it if I asked. Just don’t need to.

Mintypea5 · 27/07/2019 10:56

We know each other's passwords for things incase the other needs to use it 🤷🏻‍♀️ DH password for emails etc is the password to our eldest fornite account so I know it in case I need to log him in (eldest doesn't know it to stop him being on 24/7) I'm always asking DH to quickly log on and check something for me when I'm not able so he knows mine. I guess they'll be some passwords we don't know but if there is I'm not bothered!

Youngandfree · 27/07/2019 10:56

Dh doesn’t have one. Mine is fingerprint but if he wants to use mine I just open it for him.

puta91 · 27/07/2019 10:56

Nope, he's told me he would tell me but i don't need to know it, same here its our own little bit of privacy i wouldn't invade it

Pipandmum · 27/07/2019 10:58

On my iphone you have to enter the password (not use thumbprint) if phone shuts down due to lack of power. So it has both...

Pipandmum · 27/07/2019 10:59

But no never knows my husband’s and he didn’t know mine simply because I never used his phone and had no reason to look at it.

Thingsdogetbetter · 27/07/2019 11:00

I would if I could bloody remember it! Lol. He's told he lots of times, but I just can't retain it. I don't check it, but he might ask me access something when he's doing something else.

I've never heard of a phone that doesn't have a back up code - mine insists on the code everytime it's updated!

womblessofwimbledon · 27/07/2019 11:00

He's and I have free access to snoop - part of recovery after affair.
I have always had his pin though but didn't feel the need to check and affair messages were 'hiden' in word with friends!
If he is protective over his phone after you have seen inappropriate messages that doesn't sound good

procrastinatingtoday · 27/07/2019 11:01

Yes i know his and i think he knows mine. We don't use each other's phones though, except when driving ( I'm driving and need something from my phone etc).

Cecilandsnail · 27/07/2019 11:02

I shoukd know his, he's told me about four million times but I never remember! I don't think he knows mine, has never needed to use my phone, but his kids know it so it's no big secret.

peachgreen · 27/07/2019 11:03

Yes. If he's driving and gets a text I'll check it for him and vice versa. For looking stuff up or taking photos we both just use whatever phone is nearest. If he can't remember what time we're meeting someone he'll go back through my messages to find out. Etc etc. No snooping, just openness.

someoneontheinterweb · 27/07/2019 11:04

Yes, but only because he’s lazy and it’s super obvious. I’ve never used it to go through his phone, only when he’s passed it me to look at something (takeaway orders usually!) and it’s gone to sleep and required unlocking. He’s had to do the same with mine, but he forgets my code every time. His is a really obvious date, mine is the birthdate of a family member he never met...and he can’t remember birthdays at the best of times! It’s not an issue because neither of us needs to access the other’s phone when the owner isn’t there. I can only see it being an issue if you already don’t trust your partner.

bionicnemonic · 27/07/2019 11:04

Yes. And I would say all phones I am aware of have to have a passcode as well as a thumb print, when they restart after running out of better or doing a system update they require the passcode not the thumb print. If it was me I’d check that online against the make and model of the phone

Shoxfordian · 27/07/2019 11:06

We both use patterns to unlock phones and we know each others. Wouldn't ever look at his phone without his permission though and he wouldn't look at mine.

bionicnemonic · 27/07/2019 11:06

Better=battery

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 27/07/2019 11:07

I know DH's but only because I'm the one who deals with his tech problems! I've told DH mine when he's used my phone, but he never remembers it.

I have thumb print and back up passcode. If your partner says he doesn't have a passcode he's lying.

Pyjamaface · 27/07/2019 11:12

We know each other's for phones and laptops, we tend to just use which ever device is closest. I could easily check his messages/emails/search history but I don't and vice versa.

If either of us started being secretive over things we aren't usually then that would be a big red flag

Enclume · 27/07/2019 11:19

Don't know but my eagle eyed offspring would tell him if he asked. Hmm

ysmaem · 27/07/2019 11:21

We don't know each others passwords. I've never asked for his and vice versa. We both use thumb prints to open our phones
