Do you know your OH phone passwords?

I was just wondering if other people know their partner's phone passwords? My partner (together 4 years) knows mine but I don't know his. He uses his thumb print to unlock his phone and when we spoke about it recently (after he received some slightly odd texts from another woman) he made noises about how he didn't have a password on it because of this. I have Face ID on my phone but I still had to set up a back up password.

Do most people tend to know their partner's password? I don't want to snoop through his phone but not knowing makes me wonder if there is something to hide or if I just need to trust him more.

Neither of us have a code on our phones.

Celebelly · 27/07/2019 15:36

Yep, and email password etc. We often use each other's phones or I'll ask him to check my emails for stuff etc. Our fingerprints are registered on each other's phones.

Yes, I've always known his passwords. They are the same as his bank PIN and his email password. He uses the same ones for everything. It's not because I demand to 'know his passwords' but just because over the years, he's asked me to access things for him and they never change. I'm not particularly bothered and I don't go snooping (though I would if I felt I had a reason to - I just never have). I don't have a password on my phone. But he definitely doesn't know my email password or bank PIN just because I've never asked him to access them for me for any reason. There would be nothing interesting to see there anyway, unless he's curious about how many penis enlargement spam emails I get.

We know each other’s codes. Rarely use other phone but can for a quick google or camera if other on charge. We need to know practically - in case something bad happens.

Wolfff · 27/07/2019 16:58

DH has told me his in the past but I’ve forgotten it. Pretty sure he has forgotten mine too. We very occasionally use each other’s phones or devices. Frankly if I had something to hide I would delete everything regularly. Can’t imagine being in a relationship where I needed to breach someone’s privacy.

wendywoopywoo222 · 27/07/2019 17:06

Yes we know each other's and sometimes use each other's phones. I wouldn't snoop around on
His and he would be bored if he looked on mine.

bumble270 · 27/07/2019 17:17

OP I would be worried he's trying to pull the wool over you're eyes Hmm

If he uses his thumb print he must have a back up passcode, so I wouldn't buy that for a second. Especially if he has had previous.

I know my DH passcodes he knows mine, never checked his phone, often use each others if it's closer than our own

He had told me the passwords for all his accounts etc over 10 years but I have forgotten them

It's not the fact he's not giving you the password that would bother me, it's the lame excuse he's giving you

Married 23 years- no I don’t and he doesn’t know mine-we trust each other.
are you always so smug and self righteous? Do you have any friends with that characteristic?

Seriously, comments like yours are so baity and judgemental. People know their OH passwords for a whole host of reasons, none of which has anything to do with trust. You seem very needy to assure yourself and the world of your mutual trust. Perhaps you have issues.

My OH and I know each other's as we frequently just pick up what ever phone is the closest. Or DH asks me if I would please look up a number on his phone when he is doing something, or I ask him to check if one of the DC have messaged. Just normal day to day stuff that people who have new. Together almost 30 years might do. That's true trust by the way.

OP you do realise that fingerprint access phones all have the capacity to have more that one finger print registered. Usually up to 5. So if he really didn't mind, he could just imprint yours as one of the options.

Benjispruce · 27/07/2019 17:52

You what? I'm not smug or self righteous !!
OP asked a question, I answered it. I don't know it and the reason is because we trust each other. Nothing more to it. Sad that that is so unnatural to you.

Having said that , he would tell me it if I asked. Just don’t need to.

Did you ignore my other post underneath?

Like I said, your desperate need to announce your trust reeks of lack of trust. We share. Because that's what couples do. Don't even think about whether or not. It's just convenient. That's trust Petal.

Daffodil2018 · 27/07/2019 19:00

Yes, we know each other's. We would generally ask "can I just go on your phone for a minute" before doing so though.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 27/07/2019 19:40

No. I wish I did though.

Itswinternow · 27/07/2019 19:48

Yes. Both me and dp have each other's thumb prints on both our phones incase we need to use each other's phone.

StandardPoodle · 27/07/2019 19:49

Yes, we know each other's phone and computer passwords so if necessary we can go on any equipment (e.g. if one needs charging).
We're forever leaving our phones about the house so it's common for the person who sees an errant phone to pick it up and restore it to its owner.

quirkycutekitch · 27/07/2019 19:51

No - but then we don’t ‘hide’ our phones from each other so we can see if the other has messages & who from

ithinkiammelting · 27/07/2019 19:52

Yes.

EdWinchester · 27/07/2019 19:54

We can unlock each other's ipads/phones with our thumbs.

Jsmith99 · 27/07/2019 20:57

No, I don’t know his phone or tablet passwords, his PIN or his e-Mail or social média passwords and he doesn’t know mine. I use Apple devices and log in with my thumb print anyway.

We trust one another.

Jupiter13 · 27/07/2019 21:05

Keep mine locked and in pocket...nice and safe.😂😂😂😂

teenagetantrums · 27/07/2019 21:10

I know my partners. Not sure if she knows mine. I have told her but she probably won't remember. I only read her messages when she asks me to if she's driving or busy. She could read mine if she wanted nothing very interesting.

TooTrueToBeGood · 27/07/2019 21:25

I don't know my wife's pin but I have occassional access to her phone as she gets me to do updates and housekeeping on it every so often. She doesn't know mine but it would take her a max of 2 attempts to guess it. Having access or not though is a red herring. We've been together coming up for 25 years and never once have either of us had "slightly odd" texts from a member of the opposite sex. That is the OP's real problem. She doesn't fully trust her partner, probably with good reason. Having the code to his phone won't fix that.

MaeveDidIt · 27/07/2019 22:12

We know each others (although knowing DH he's prob forgotten mine).
Can't stand people not being open with passwords.
Known too many friends with partners being secretive and doing the dirty on them.
