I fancy the postie!

Hello!

So I'm new to mumsnet. Long time lurker. I'm a 30yo single mum with two daughters.

I'll get straight to it. I order quite a lot of things online so the postie knocks on my door quite often. It's only been recently however that we started talking. Nothing much, just a bit of small talk and maybe light flirting? Hard to tell!

Today was lovely. He knocked this morning and as I answered my little yorkie ran out and he ran after her, picked her up and brought her back. Seems silly but a little gesture like that really meant a lot!

Anyway, I'm hopeless at taking initiative with these sorts of things. I have no idea if he's single and don't really know how to go about finding out?

Thank you!

So much less pressure to dress up when you know he’s seen you 1000 times in your slob-wear! What a plus!

And I bet he has loads of good goss about your suburb, I hope he spills!

Have fun.

Well then... sorry to keep you all waiting, it's been a pretty hectic day!

So after I'd dropped the kids off at school, I took a good 2 hours getting ready - mostly faffing about because I'm nervous - and we decided on meeting up at this nice little coffee place in town.

He was there before me, waiting outside, wearing a fairly tight fitting short sleeved shirt and shorts (bloody typical postie! Haha). He looked f***g fit though! Hahaha. First thing he says is "wow you look great", which I really liked. But then I'm not used to compliments (is it sad that my ex never once said that to me?).

Anyway, as we walk in he says take a seat and pulls the chair out for me. Again, a small gesture but they do count in my book. He asked what I wanted and nipped off to get the coffee. He did seem quite flustered, dashing about a bit! so was I, however, but I tend to be good at hiding it.

We just start off with a bit of small talk but we eventually start having a bit of laugh. He's quite cheeky, sarcastic. Very sharp witted, which comes as a surprise. I'd picked that up a bit from him before but it really came out today! It's in a warm way, though. Flirty. I can give as good as I get!

I eventually get around to asking him about how he lives (alone/at home etc). He said he's only just moved out of his mums place, into a flat in town. I jokingly said he seemed bit old to have still been living with his mum (that sort of thing doesn't bother me - I was just curious). His answer took me back! He said he'd first left home years ago, but that his mum, living alone, had a stroke 3 years ago. His dad died when he was young so he was very close to his mum growing up. He's an only child. Once she came out the hospital he decided to move in with her to pretty much be a full time carer. She's since recovered a lot, which is great to hear. So that's why he's moved out again.

He said it happened at the worst time as he was hoping to quit his old job (worked in admin) and become a pro boxer, so it turned all that on its head. He said he started working as a postie because it was part time so could still earn a bit whilst looking after his mum.

I could tell he was effected talking about it all so just said I thought he's amazing and gradually changed the subject.

I found we have a fair bit in common. He's into some of the nerdy shows I like. We talked politics. Laughed a lot. Before I knew it it was 2 o'clock and had to end things there to be back in time to pick up the girls!

We hugged and he kissed me on the cheek and said he had a great time and that we should do it again. I said definitely!

So yeah, I think he's absolutely wonderful! I cried a bit when I got back thinking about what he's been through with his mum, the sacrifices he's made. It's a lot to take in. But the positive I took from it is that firstly he was honest enough to talk openly about it and secondly it shows he's very kind and selfless.

heavy stuff aside it was very fun and I felt totally at ease with him. This has all felt so natural. I'm so excited! I cant stop thinking about him now!

All this from asking the postie in for a tea!
