Sorry I know its probably been asked a thousand times before! Thinking of giving it a go after my horrid break up and would really appreciate some advice and recommendations. I would like to be in a relationship again and even if it means paying I'd rather use a site where I'm less likely to be messed around. Thanks in advance x

I’ve used one paid site - Match. Lots of men looking at my profile who were hundreds of miles away. I didn’t think it was worth the money.

Of the free ones I’ve used Tinder, Plenty of Fish and Bumble.

POF is a bit of a free for all and I’ve found men could be quite filthy on there.

I’m a fan of the sites where you can only chat to people where there’s a mutual swipe to indicate you both like each other - eg Tinder and Bumble.

Thanks Fondue.

Can you use them without a smartphone?

OkCupid!

So I've done some research and going to register with 'okcupid'. Eeek, nervous but excited! Thanks everyone 😁

If you’re looking for a man- please check their answers to the questions on Ok Cupid, they can be really (disturbingly) revealing
(eg do you think cat calling is a bad thing/ is mansplaining a thing/ should we be actively addressing the gender pay gap/ are racist jokes funny/ would you have a problem with your match house sharing with a member of the opposite sex/ are you a feminist etc)

(I’ve not looked for a woman to match with, but suggest looking at the questions is probably still relevant)

Good luck!!

Guardian and Times not worth it unless you're in London.

POF full of wankers IME.

Tinder full of hookup artists, which is fine if that's what you want.

OKC for me has been best. It allows you to be very honest about what you're looking for, and the personality quiz thingies allow you to automatically discard people who have views diametrically opposed to yours. IME OKC had the best percentage for non-hetero partnerships outside of "specialist" sites.
