How do you know if you're in love?

Been seeing a lovely man for about 3 months now. We had a really nice at the weekend and lying in bed with him I had an overwhelming urge to say I love you - I didn't because it's only been 3 months and I'm not sure if it's too soon to say it

But it got me wondering, how do you know if you actually love the person or if it's just a 'I love spending time with you and you make me happy and feel cared about' kind of feeling. To love someone does it need to be deeper than that? And if so how long do you think it would take to truly know if you really loved someone?

I think the lust bubble lasts about a year and then the fog clears and reality bites.

On a serious note, I think it's hard to tell at the start op. Just see how it goes as it's still early . :)

I don't think there's a hard a fast rule on how long it takes or how long you should wait to say it.

Love feels different for different people. I am a heart on my sleeve kind of person so if I felt it strongly I think I would say (if I thought they might feel the same). Life's short to not say how you feel.
