Hi all,

My husband informed me nearly two months ago that he loved me but wasn't in love with me.

Since then he has moved out twice; once for a week and then returned and for the last two weeks he has been living at his mums.

He decided he would give counselling a try, we have out first counselling session this evening and I'm not sure what to expect??

They sent through a welcome pack of which I've written notes next to the questions they have suggested answering but when it comes to 'when did you notice there was a problem' well I didn't until he dropped the bombshell!

Anyway I guess I'm wondering if anyone has been through this before and can maybe advise what I can expect?

Thanks in advance

First session is really just getting out in the open what's happening. You will likely sign a contract that explains confidentiality, when it may have to be broken etc.

Just relax, be honest and open.

Hoping things work out for you :)

DH and I had our first session with relate about 3 weeks ago. The initial assessment. We did it via a Skype appointment but I would assume the process is the same. It was basically just outlining the main issues and the situation, which was guided by questions from the counsellor. We are now on a waiting list that appears to be about 12 weeks, really frustrating as things are in crisis and we need the help now. However we were very specific about needing Skype appointments at set times on only set evenings so would assume if we were more available it wouldn’t be such a wait.

@Bearberry we are now on a waiting list too but they couldn't tell us how long the waiting list was going to be, so playing the waiting game now.

How far are you into your 12 weeks?

We must be nearly 4 weeks waiting now. Really hoping it comes through soon...
