Contacted Facebook attractive male just looks ordinary.

He messaged:

Hi, your profile photo just caught my eyes and I appreciate your beauty; I hope we can communicate

You have to do more than marry someone to get a visa to get into the uk.

Dr Phil says that scammers use shit spelling and grammar on purpose so they can assess how gullible you are. If you can accept their broken English then you are likely to be the type of person who can accept their crazy stories.

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 24/05/2019 21:10

Often scammers use a bot to fish for responses, then once you've shown you're gullible/naive enough to respond, you get passed to an actual human scanner to reel you in.

If you want to get into scam baiting (deliberately wasting scammers time for revenge /entertainment) then fine, but make sure you do it properly and safely - people have been hacked, had their computers destroyed with viruses, had personal data (including intimate photos) mined from their online storage and disseminated, and in one case, killed because they took on scammers. Scammers are highly organised professional criminals. This isnt some lonely guy you think you can outwit with a few put downs.

SandyY2K · 24/05/2019 23:23

I've had a couple of messages like that. I just respond, with thanks, I'm married. That usually ends it.

I wouldn't say these are all scams...as in trying to get money from you...but lots turn out to be catfish.

IvanaPee · 25/05/2019 14:43

I've been single many many years. I'm not actually looking for a relationship but I was curious. Anyway I blocked him.

Ok, but do you actually understand that this is a thing? Like, this is not a “oh I’m single so I’ll give it a chance” situation.

It’s a scam/bot/creepy weirdo. You don’t seem to understand that it wasn’t someone looking for a chat.

Sorry, but you hear of people being scammed and you think there’s no way someone would be that gullible...

lifegoes · 25/05/2019 14:51

Not sure what I've missed. But this isn't a bot.

Probably some sad man, who set up a fake account looking for women to have sex with. Unfortunately it happens not just on FB but Instagram.

SilverySurfer · 25/05/2019 15:08

exexpat
I had one of these. My profile picture is my dog...

This made me laugh and also I think says it all.

I've blocked, take it no one has met "the one" that way?

I would pay big money on a bet that the answer is no, unless, of course by 'the one' you mean the one who scammed and stole money from you and god knows what else. Hmm

pelirocco123 · 25/05/2019 15:24

He will be
In the US military
Stationed abroad
Widower
Child back in the US
And needs money to get home

pelirocco123 · 25/05/2019 15:28

I used to reply just to wind them up , but it's hard work
Visit www.419eaters.com , they like to scam the scammers it's pretty funny

CircleofWillis · 25/05/2019 15:37

Pelirocco,
I've just been to visit this site but only found links to scam investigation companies selling their services. Do you have a better link to stories of scammers being strung along?

Thedilemma111 · 25/05/2019 15:45

I think it’s someone foreign looking for a British romance

Thedilemma111 · 25/05/2019 15:45

Or British money ..:

blueshoes · 25/05/2019 16:03

If it’s a bot, it’s only a question of time before it sends you a picture of it’s hard drive.
