I'm seeing someone and his phone had a notification, I looked at it and it was loads of notifications from match.com. I confronted him and he said that he used to pay to be on it but he no longer pays but still gets notifications. I done a fake profile and found him, everyday either shows him online or online in the last 24 hours. I confronted him when he was meant to be online and he denied it and said he wasn't, I asked him why his profile always says that he was online in the last 24 hours, again he denied.
Is he lying or is it possible to show as online but not be?

He is lying. Why hasn’t he deleted the account, those notifications must be annoying if he isn’t using the account.

littlepurplesunset · 01/05/2019 15:25

He lied 100%

Tucobenedicto · 01/05/2019 15:28

No he might not be lying...it defo does say you are always online even if you aren't...it's to get people to message you as you think they are online there and then..

Whichwayfoward · 01/05/2019 15:34

It doesn't say that at all, Tuco. I've seen profiles say "last online three months ago"

He is absolutely lying.

I'm really sorry.

Honeybee85 · 01/05/2019 15:35

He is a liar.

Sorry OP.
You deserve better.

Mummyoftwo91 · 01/05/2019 15:35

Sorry op he's lying x

redhotchill · 01/05/2019 15:36

Lying

Tucobenedicto · 01/05/2019 15:39

I guarantee you it can happen...I am not a liar

letsdolunch321 · 01/05/2019 15:50

Idiot man, why lie !!!!

TowelNumber42 · 01/05/2019 15:52

Lies.

Even in the unlikely situation that he's not lying you won't trust him any more will you?

justwanttogo · 01/05/2019 15:55

I'm only asking because I searched online and some people say this can happen, especially if you have an app on your phone? Also if you read an email from match.com it will show up as online?

Sadiesnakes · 01/05/2019 15:56

Stop trying to convince yourself op. He's clearly lying.

BlueMerchant · 01/05/2019 15:59

You are trying to talk yourself into believing this liar. Wake up. You can do better.

RLEOM · 01/05/2019 16:00

Definitely lying. Sorry, OP.

Please don't waste your time with someone who isn't committed to you. Been there, done that, broke my heart in the long-run. Leopard never changes his spots and all that jazz.

Yummymummycupcake · 01/05/2019 16:01

He's lying. It's easy to delete an account so he would not be getting notifications.

happyhillock · 01/05/2019 16:01

Don't be an idiot he's lying

booboo24 · 01/05/2019 16:06

I agree with Tuco, I had hell's delight getting rid of the damn thing! It kept emailing me telling me I had matches, I got in touch with them, I even had an email confirming the account was closed and STILL they bombarded me. Not sure it would sit easy with me if I were you but just letting you know from experience that it can happen.

it would be telling if he now didnt show online at all, that would ring alarm bells too!

Aquamarine1029 · 01/05/2019 16:08

Run, don't walk, straight to the hills. He is gaslighting the fuck out of you.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 01/05/2019 16:08

Have you had the exclusivity talk OP? Have you actually both agreed to date each other only?

Tucobenedicto · 01/05/2019 16:12

Get him to sit beside you and you go online and see if it says he is online

TeaForTheWin · 01/05/2019 16:14

If he clicks a link in the notification and actually goes to the webpage to read it then it will put him as online but why would he be reading the notifications in the first place? I mean he has you.

Also, he should really have cancelled his account if you two are exclusive. He may be paid up to a certain point but he can still cancel it regardless.

But 'seeing someone' ? either you are together or not. If he has not said 'I am your boyfriend' then it leaves space for ambiguity and for him to feel entitled to continue dating.

Ellisandra · 01/05/2019 17:20

I de-activated my Match account when I met my now husband, 8 years ago.

Not a single notification. Ever.

ems137 · 01/05/2019 17:25

Well surely he'd just delete the app if he didn't use it. That way he wouldn't get any notifications would he?! Even if he couldn't figure out how to delete his whole profile he could delete the app in about 2 seconds!!

I know exactly how you're feeling OP. What he's doing is gaslighting you. Basically telling you what you've seen with your own eyes wasn't real. My exDH was EXACTLY the same. He was so fucking convincing too that I believed his bullshit for far too long.

My advice is just dump the bastard now. Save yourself from the hassle.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 01/05/2019 18:12

I've logged out of my Tinder account but keep getting notifications. I can't quite bring myself to delete the app/my account because it's where I met DP and our very first exchanges are on there. Blush

Longdistance · 01/05/2019 18:33

He’s full of shit.
