Threath of taking children out of the UK

Hello

My son and his Chinese wife have separated. The three children were all born in China, but now have UK passports and lived in the UK for 3 years. One of the reasons for the separation was that my Daughter-in-law wanted to return to China. During arguments, she always threatened to take the children (either all of them of just one/two). The parents have an informal agreement to share custody. I am now frightened that my DIL will take the three children and disappear into China. Does my son have any legal rights to keep the children in the UK?

He needs to apply to the court to request they stay in the UK as there is no formal agreement, so children could be taken back, and also have the children placed on a no fly list, if you have such a thing in the UK. This would flag them if they left the country.
