Actually wears pants rather than boxers.

Is this normal?! He’s 39 and I’ve never seen this before in my years of dating!

Pants is the right word Smile. My DP wears old fashioned y-fronts. Luckily I don't have to see them that much as they come off quickly. They are not attractive...

I call trousers, jeans pants! I'm not American :)
My undies are called knickers and Dh wears boxers, tight ones not the loose kind. We never use the term pants about our underwear.
I'm assuming op means mens briefs. I'm not fond of them. I can't explain why really. I just don't like them but if that was what Dh chose to wear then meh! I'd go with it. I prefer him out of underwear anyway ;)

I call my pants pants, or kecks. Boxers are uncomfortable, I don’t know why men wear them, and I’ve not got swinging tackle to deal with.

It’s up to him what pants he wears. If it’s a big deal for you then he’s probably better off without you tbh.
