Actually wears pants rather than boxers.

Is this normal?! He’s 39 and I’ve never seen this before in my years of dating!

OP posts:
RockyFlintstone · 26/02/2019 21:20

My husband wears the big loose checked trunk style boxers, as he reckons tight ones are 'too restrictive'. I think they look so uncomfortable and they are always sticking up above his trousers, but he likes them and we have been together too long for it to bother me any more.

He refers to them as 'gruds' by the way...

RaffertyFair · 26/02/2019 21:21

Surely pants is the generic term Confused. Boxers, briefs, y-fronts, etc. are examples of types of pants.....

RockyFlintstone · 26/02/2019 21:22

Yeah, I have to say, I would find it weird if a bloke wore briefs, unless perhaps he was David Gandy bodied then I could probably cope.

I have never come across them in real life I have to say (but then Ive never been with anyone David Gandy bodied either!)

GregoryPeckingDuck · 26/02/2019 21:22

Yeah, he’s British. That’s what British people call their underwear. I wonder what he thinks about your underwear, maybe he’s disappointed that you don’t wear leather thongs on a daily basis. Surely it doesn’t matter? I don’t like boxers that much. All men look best in the short style tight cotton things imo. But I don’t really care, they don’t stay on firvthat long do they?

Doyoumind · 26/02/2019 21:22

All bum underwear in my house is pants.

speakout · 26/02/2019 21:25

Our family all call hem pants.

And I wouldn't judge my OHs pants- as long as they are clean.

I have lots of the same type of pants- built for comfort, no VPL
If my OH commented on my choice of pants he would be in the dog house.

My bum, my pants.

Same with OH- he wears the type he likes, it's not my place to comment.

Skittlesandbeer · 26/02/2019 21:26

In Australia ‘pants’ usually refers to trousers. Unless you’re an unbearable TV fashion commentator, who calls trousers ‘pant’ (as in, ‘Style that garish shirt back with a neutral pant’). Angry

Boxers & briefs are the usual male options, unless you’re ‘going commando’ Envy.

In the sense of the family wash load, I’m partial to calling them ‘smalls’, ‘knickers’ or ‘undies’.

dutysuite · 26/02/2019 21:27

I don't really see the issue really. I call boxers pants.

origamiunicorn · 26/02/2019 21:30

I didn't think men really wore boxers these days. The boxer-briefs that origamiunicorn posted seem more popular.

Yeah that's the pants my DP wears. I'm still none the wiser about these offending pants 🤣

gamerwidow · 26/02/2019 21:31

Meh, I've always them pants and DH is 41 but has worn briefs for as long as I've known him.
They're his undergarments not yours and as long as they are clean I don't see the problem.
I'd be most put out if DH insisted on me wearing a g string instead of my comfy pants so I leave his pants well alone.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 26/02/2019 21:33

All underwear is called “pants”. You can sub section into type if you want; knickers ,thongs, briefs, boxers

Personally I am well over boxers and tight trunks on men.. They look a bit try hard but mostly a bit too much material and possibly sweaty.

I like a bugie sumuggler. Blokes that don’t give a shit, rock.

BrizzleMint · 26/02/2019 21:33

They are pants so what else would he call them?

theemmadilemma · 26/02/2019 21:36

I think op means these...

He refers to his underwear as pants and...
NameChangeNugget · 26/02/2019 21:38

Imagine the uproar, if he insisted you wore a thong all the time if that wasn’t your thing and you called them knickers?

Stinkytoe · 26/02/2019 21:40

My DH used to wear pants like theemma has posted but they made him temporarily infertile

GabsAlot · 26/02/2019 21:41

does it matter and how long u been dating coz you wont get very fair if something petty like that bothers you

Dahlietta · 26/02/2019 21:43

Are you American and wrongly call trousers pants?

My dad was from Lancashire and he and his parents always called trousers pants. As he would point out, that's why underpants are so named.
Anyway, I am also in the camp of I would rather date a man who wore y-fronts than huge voluminous boxers. Does anyone wear those anymore? I think they will soon be the new grandad knickers, if they're not already.

3out · 26/02/2019 21:44

But they are pants. Would you rather he called them smalls? Boxer shorts are very 90s/ Lynx Africa

FoldyRoll · 26/02/2019 21:45

Origami's photo is more of a cock sock. Not sure what's going on with the first pants photo (dark grey). Makes it look like he's got a button mushroom resting on sizeable balls. The Terry Wogan photo can't be far off.
Underpants is an American thing OP because they call trousers pants. In the UK, pants are under crackers, shreddies, grots or in the most unfortunate cases, skiddy wires, in which you would have cause for complaint.

Pemba · 26/02/2019 21:45

Like pps said, boxers are a type of pants. Pants is the word for lower half underwear in the UK (well and also knickers is sometimes used for women's pants). It's short for underpants.
So I don't know what you're on about really.

flummoxedlummox · 26/02/2019 21:47

Every photo on men's underwear packaging I've ever seen, whatever the style, has been of a six-packed Adonis. Maybe your OH imagines he looks like that? Grin

Moralitym1n1 · 26/02/2019 21:49

I'm with you op, I hate the word pants. And there are so my other words they could use instead.

Don't like those brief things on men either, but partner does occasionally wear them as claims they're more supportive than many boxers.

LikeACowsOpinion · 26/02/2019 21:52

I think pants is just a generic term for underwear, isn't it?

As long as he isn't wandering about in a lacy thong I'd let it go..

SouthernComforts · 26/02/2019 21:53

Pants can be underpants. Pants can also be trousers. I can usually work out which someone is talking about depending on whether or not I can see their willy at the time.

origamiunicorn · 26/02/2019 21:54

Origami's photo is more of a cock sock. Not sure what's going on with the first pants photo (dark grey). Makes it look like he's got a button mushroom resting on sizeable balls.

I have the worst cackle laugh 😂
