In praise of my MIL

Just for something a little different, my Mother In Law:

• Comes to stay for a few days every month, and helps with cooking, cleaning, shopping and dd.

• Is delighted to babysit, adores my dd and is adored by her in return.

• Pays attention to how I want my dd brought up, and phrases any suggestions she has with great tact.

• Makes me feel like I am doing a good job as a mother.

• Is the only person I can whinge about DH to and not feel disloyal - she knows that I love him dearly, but that he can be somewhat trying at times.

• Is generally just a nice person, and is very lovely to have around.

Anyone else got a great MIL?

Unfortunately, my mother is a dragon and any time I spend with her is far too much.

Actually, I just got off the phone to her and realised what a rock she is in all lives, so thought I'd say it!

I have a wonderful MIL as well. She does my washing and ironing for me when it becomes the EU washine montain . She adores DDs and love babysitting them. Listens and sympatises when I moan about DH.
The only negative is when the children are around adults don't get a look in but I have learnt to live with that and now look forward to it as I can get on with things I cannot do when the children are around. Plus she faffs abit but then so do I

thats lovely. mine just tells me to get on with things cos i chose to have the kids and goes against everything i say.

my MIL is lovely, and i hope it doesnt change in dec when our baby arrives, she has been great with her other grandchild and i think she will be great with this one
i also can moan about DP about her and she understands becasue she has lived with him and knows how difficult he is

Awwww, mine's not bad (have just taken the piss out of her an another thread). She's great with the kids, and is forever sending them little parcels in the post, which makes them wildly excited.

At least you realise how lucky you are, that is so great .

Does she do courses. She might teach other MILs how to do it?

Really it is nice to hear that it can be done. Gives some hope that I can do it when I (hopefully) become a MIL/granny one day.

Yes, my MIL is lovely, someone I can imagine being friends with even if I wasn't married to DH. I always got on with her but since having DD I feel even closer to her.

She's very respectful of my choices as a mother. She always checks stuff with me, tells me why she's done something (if she is looking after DD). Best of all whenever we stay she asks if she can get up with DD so we can stay in bed! And when I was BFing she always brought me a glass of water without me ever once having to ask.

Having met her MIL (DH's grandma - who is a bit of a horror)I think she probably had quite a hard time when she was a young mother and was determined not to do the same thing to me.

I love my own mother dearly (and appreciate her more since having DD) but if anyone is going to make a tactless or unhelpful comment its going to be her.

Step MIL is more difficult. But that's another post!

my MIL is the greatest, not only does she share the same name as me but we have very similar personalities.

looks after dd so i dont have to exceed my regular childcare costs.

ocassionally takes dd away for weekends to their caravan.

bought us a people carrier 2 yrs ago.

has dd to stay overnight so we can go out.

was/is like a mum to me, my own mum cut me outof her life when i told her that stepfather abused me when i was a child.

she spoils my dd, always tells d and me that she loves us.

says if me and dh were ever to split up she would be on my side!!!

at all those with great MILs.

My FIL is cantankerous, but generous, and loves us all dearly.

Can't ask for more than that.

Hee! at the comment from Millie865 about your own mum. Thats mine too! My favourite mum comment (repeated at every opportunity) is "Well, I have raised 3 kids you know" Yes mum, I do know but that doesn't mean you know EVERYTHING.

But I digress. Very happy at the MIL love in. Sorry to those who have rotten ones. Lets all resolve to be the good kind of MIL when our time comes!

I live next door to my inlaws, My mother-in-law...

• adores DD and DS.

• Babysits whenever DH and I want her to (which isn't very much but even so!)

• Lets me help myself to food etc when a) I've run out b) I've run out of money

• Cooks us a roast dinner every Sunday

• Gives us money now and again to help out

• Respects my choices as a mother and does whatever she can to help me.

• Oh, and recently she's been walking our dog while I'm at work!

you are all very lucky, mine is overbearing & controlling (fil is also)they can occasionally make my life hell.

my mil is k didnt think she liked me then ive had her first and only gd and she couldnt have babies so she now loves me ok she doesnt do the washing etc but we do get a three course meal with lots wine

talliac I think I have the oppsoite Moher- every time I ask for advice she says 'I ahd three kids, you have three kids, what could I know you don't?'

My DH says he has the best MIL in the world and he says that if i turn out anything like her, then he'll consider himself to be a very lucky bloke!

My MIL is a loon of the first water, however I shall praise her on this thread because she never, never criticises or has anything negative to say about our/my parenting decisions, and just says how lovely DS is and how great we are with him and how well-loved and cared for he is - for which I owe her a great big thank you.

My MIL is lovely.

She's just been ordained.

She never critises and tells me how wonderful I am.

She's great.

I've got two lovely MIL's!!!!!

Just to explain, I'm still very good friends with my MIL from my first marriage and still see her regaulary, both so she can see the children and also on a social basis.

My MIL from my new hubby is also lovely but we don't see her very often as she lives far away. I've always got on with her too and I make the effort to keep in touch as DH isn't as 'proactive'. I think she really appreciates it.

I really feel for those who have a difficult time with their IL's - my bf has a nightmare with hers!

my MiL is wonderful. after having ds i was so ill that the hospital would only discharge me if i had someone with me 24h so ds and i went to stay with PiLs and they were fab. i love my MIL and wish my mum was more like her tbh

My lovely MIL is going to have my dd to stay for a couple of days while we have a break at a hotel quite near where she lives - good cos we can pop over if it all gets tricky (or we miss dd too much!). MIL is v excited about it, thats because she's forgotten that dd gets up at 6.30am....

First time away on our own since dd was born, yay!
