How would you feel if someone you were dating said this to you

Sat outside my house in the car, he’s talking about wanting to move from his house somewhere bigger. I point to one of the houses opposite that are slightly bigger than mine on the other side of the road, say I like them. He says: ‘them? Really? They’re like the council houses in x place.’ (The place being where he lives). He knows full well they’re not council houses here and I’ve never seen anything like them where he lives either - they’re beautiful Victorian semis!

Anyway. I’ve felt pretty pissed off about it and wondering if I’m being a bit dranantic.

My house is a lot smaller than his and I’ve worked really hard for it. It’s in a nice and expensive area, hence why it is small (!)

Sounds so petty when I write it down!

Sounds a bit condescending.

NameChangeNugget · 04/02/2019 17:35

He sounds like a bit of a knob. I’d have challenged him on it

HarrietOh · 04/02/2019 17:39

Didn’t you post something similar before? I remember a very similar thread to this!

ArkAtEee · 04/02/2019 18:59

Yes this sounds familiar to me too. The advice on that thread was LTB, I'd say the same here.

Usernamealreadyexists · 05/02/2019 20:55

I’ve read this before. Very weird to post same scenario again.

SuperSuperSuper · 05/02/2019 21:37

Wow. He is full of himself, isn't he?

WhiteVixen · 05/02/2019 21:45

Glad I’m not the only one who thought they’d read this before...

Trevorwhatever · 05/02/2019 21:54

You’re still with him then op.

Musti · 05/02/2019 21:56

I can't stand Victorian semis either. Unless they're huge but the big standard ones tend to be corridor like with small kitchens. However, lots of people like them and hate the houses I like (which are modern and airy). Different tastes is all.

HollowTalk · 05/02/2019 21:56

If someone criticised my house then I'd tell him to do one.

Bananalanacake · 05/02/2019 21:59

Hope he's not suggesting you move in together. Big red flag after a few dates.

Dirtybadger · 05/02/2019 22:03

I wish I could afford an ex council house. They're usually really big.

Sounds like a stuck up knob. He could have just said "no, bigger than that" if that's what he meant.

Couldn't be with anyone being snotty about council houses personally.

Consolidatedyourloins · 05/02/2019 22:08

He can't afford where you live but is too ashamed to admit it so is pooh poohing them to hide this and make himself feel better.

Ditch.

callieisdoingit · 05/02/2019 22:09

You've posted this before.

showmeshoyu · 05/02/2019 22:11

I wish I could afford an ex council house. They're usually really big.

Some of the postwar council houses where I grew up were modelled after the Victorian footprint only slightly scaled back. I remember my grandparents' council house being substantially bigger and nicer in feel than the privately owned more modern house I grew up in. My sister owns a lovely old ex council house with two reception rooms and three decent bedrooms. Funnily enough almost identical footprint to my grandparents' place. Houses nowadays often play tricks to make them look bigger than they are. That's why I'll probably never buy a modern house and live with the foibles of a Victorian place.

AutumnCrow · 05/02/2019 22:13

Then what did you say??

HappyGirlNow · 05/02/2019 22:16

Why do you keep posting basically the same thing?

Bluntness100 · 05/02/2019 22:20

Do you think this is some game the trolls are playing? Repost a recent inane thread? That's the second I've seen recently,

AutumnCrow · 05/02/2019 22:47

Friend left their baby / child with me days
Tell me about your sex/poo/wee
First date and he had to buy school shoes / bag while his mum rang ambulance for his dad's bad back

That kind of thing?
