On tinder....I feel like im shopping.
When I do get a match, nobody chats. I have tried chatting first and a hand full appear passive.
Thought I'd try a dating site but can't really afford to pay.
I have heard horror stories about POF. Apparently no good for your self esteem?

Ten years ago met my now dh. Married 8 years and have 2 children now. My friend also met her husband.
I blocked weirdos but because I lived fairly rurally it was easy as there weren't many in my local area. I met around 6 guys for dates....all of them nice normal guys but no sparks... then I met my dh!

Bubblesandcake · 11/07/2018 19:54

Loving these happy stories 😊
I have received messages on POF but nothing is happening on okcupid, it's saying to pay?

Someone once described POF as the parade of the damned. With the frankly terrible experiences I had on there I'd be inclined to agree. Sorry OP!

OneThingMissing · 11/07/2018 20:14

I found the quality of men on POF to be extremely low, to be honest. The odds are good but the goods are odd.

Treacletoots · 11/07/2018 20:41

Lol, yep. Quantity over quality definitely. I struggled to find a man over 30 who had a job, car and didn't live with his parents. Really. Really. Sorry if that's me being over picky.

Met my dp on pof. 5yrs in and still good. Neither of us had pictures. Before dp met others and had a few good dates - lots of frogs, but lots of decent guys & girls too!! Be sensible and clear about what you want and see how it goes - best of luck! Should say, we were mid 40s at the time Grin

Chinnyreckoning · 11/07/2018 21:19

Well let's see. My husband's a masters educated man in a well paid professional job. He's kind, caring. Holds his own in the housework dept...i haven't done laundry since he moved in! I never changed a nappy when he was on pat leave both times. He's an excellent father. And a great man in general... we've never had an argument that involved shouting. He would never hit me. He doesn't like football (bonus). Good in bed. He can be quite reserved but with me hee is funny and relaxed.
I wouldn't say low quality. Not at all😁

Namechanger1404 · 12/07/2018 00:26

Had 2 relationships from POF. First one 3 years, second nearly 7 years. I know they didn’t work out, but neither of them were weird.

You will always have your oddballs, online and IRL, you just need to be savvy.

I must also stress, meeting as early as possible, as although you might get on in text, doesn’t mean you will IRL, this is from bitter experienceConfused

BarbedBloom · 12/07/2018 06:49

I also met my DH on POF. :)

lynmilne65 · 12/07/2018 07:47

Well I paid up and got precisely nowhere, maybe too old and ugly ☹️

Chocolatecake12 · 12/07/2018 07:53

I sifted through the nutters and found my lovely dp! We’ve been together 2 years now.
There are some odd people out there though - I’ve a few funny stories from weird messages to odd dates!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 12/07/2018 07:58

I met my lovely partner on POF, so it was the best thing I ever did signing up to it. However, I would say be careful as there are some strange people on dating sites and some will tell you want you want to hear to get what they want. Some are just outright weird or horrible.
There are decent people on there, you just need to go in with an open mind and be aware.
I would also advise making sure you have a bit of a connection with someone before meeting to avoid wasted time, but meeting fairly quickly.

ShatnersWig · 12/07/2018 08:13

I loathed online dating, did all the various sites over time, but despite being single for years will never ever do it again. HOWEVER, the ONLY site I ever had decent chats and some dates from was POF.

Bubblesandcake · 12/07/2018 09:02

It's nice to hear some positive stories.
I have actually cringed opening some of the messages I was sent last night. Disappointed, but will stick with it a little while.
I'm too scared to look this morning though....

Never been on POF but I am on muddymatches (in the vain hope of finding someone with a similar lifestyle/interests to me) and got plenty of chatting going and a couple of dates. Nothing that has led anywhere as yet but so far not encountered any weirdos

lennyisnuts · 12/07/2018 09:35

You have to kiss a lot of frogs! I met my
DP on POF 5 years ago. We are
Expecting our first child in December. Weedle our the weirdos and there's some nice, genuine people out there. X

I'm loving reading these positive messages. So happy for you all.
I'm a bit horrified though. I'm not sure it's going to do me any good for me!

I got divorced 5 years ago with no self confidence so joined POF. There are some idiots on there but you just have to be careful. I met a guy who I have now recently married so I’m all for POF!

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 12/07/2018 18:29

I met DP on POF 6 years ago. He was also on Match, as were a couple of other guys I met up with, so even if someone has paid for Match they will prob also be on POF.

I hid my profile so that men couldn’t see me unless I messaged or liked them first - helps to weed out the unsuitables (although now I think you have to wait 24 hours to do that).

I went on 4 dates and they were all nice chaps, before meeting DP.

We recently split up for a while and I went back on there and started chatting to a couple of interesting guys. If you filter well there’s no reason you can’t meet someone nice.

I had the same experience on tinder as others - would match with someone but then nothing happened. It’s also a lot more picture based, whereas I like to be able to search based on location, age, non smoker, no kids etc

Give it a go - nothing ventured nothing gained.

Limpopobongo · 12/07/2018 19:03

As a man i have browsed POF in the past and it cuts both ways. The majority of the women on there wouldnt be for me. There were some good prospects though.

Bubblesandcake · 12/07/2018 19:07

Thanks everyone. Fab stories but after 24 hours, it really wasn't for me! Account deleted!

I met my DP on POF. We have been together five years and have a 14 month DS Grin

Boredboredboredboredbored · 12/07/2018 19:33

I too met my dp on there last year. I half heartedly signed up as my exh had announced he'd met somebody so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Same night I got a message from dp (amongst lots of creeps), chatted for a week then met up. Only dated him and cancelled my subscription a few weeks later.

I am a fussy bugger too so wasn't expecting to get a single date out of it but I've met the most lovely, genuine man I've ever known. He's as smitten with me as I am with him, we recently got engaged. Go for it you never know who you may meet!

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 13/07/2018 00:36

Well you haven’t really given it a chance have you?! 24 hours you didn’t even have time to hide your profile and spend some time doing the choosing yourself!

I clicked ‘favourite’ on my DP to save him for later as I already had a date lined up. I didn’t realise he would get a notification of that. But he did. So he messaged me, I ended up not going on the other date, scheduled one with him the next week and we hit it off straight away.

Sounds like you've been scared off by the barrage of messages you get when they smell fresh meat!! It’s a long game, not a sprint.
