Is any one dating a dwarf?

Ok, here’s my dilemma, I am widowed and I have 4 kids. I recently started dating a colleague, everything is great, when we are alone everything is perfect. The thing is he’s a dwarf. He’s 4’6” and I’m a foot taller. Wherever we go people stare and it makes me really uncomfortable. Will I be able to get over this? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

My Uncle is short statured - his wife is 5foot5 - they are very happy. You will get stares, questions and the occasional drunk 'lad' trying to pick him up - if their experience is anything to go by but they are very happy because my uncle is a kind and extremely funny man Grin

Peter Dinklage is gorgeous!

We're all the same height lying down! I went out with a man who was (still is, presumablyGrin) 5"6 and I'm nearly six feet. Didn't bother either of us.

He is.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 24/05/2018 22:05

4'3 sorry.

weebarra · 24/05/2018 22:06

Does he have achondroplasia or is he small? I'm female but I'm only 4' 8. Many of my son's ten year old friends are taller than me. My husband is 5' 9 but I have been out with people who are 6+
I can see it being an issue, but people stare at anything different. They stared at my bald chemo head, they stare at my ginger child, they stare at my oldest having a meltdown. Fuck 'em

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 24/05/2018 22:06

PK is dashing.

snowwhiteandthesevendogs · 24/05/2018 22:07

is dwarf the correct term op?

Moolimoo · 24/05/2018 22:07

Thanks guys. I do feel awful for having doubts. But he’s a great guy, and he really likes me. All but one of my kids are taller than him. They think it’s great. They don’t care at all. I need to take a life lesson from my ten year old! I feel much better now though. So thanks everyone

The correct term varies from person to person. My friend prefers dwarf, but he's German so it's "Zwerg".

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 24/05/2018 22:09

Dwarf, little person or short statutes are all acceptable terms I'm told.

PurpleCrowbar · 24/05/2018 22:10

I'm nearly 6' & I'd give Peter Dinklage serious consideration. He's talented, funny & handsome. Not that he's available, sadly.

I've spent my whole life dating shorter men, & yes, if I'm honest, 'taller than me so I don't feel like a heffalump' is a plus. My issue - I'm self conscious about my height - not any reflection on a partner's height. I know for a fact that my late first DH told a couple of mates that 'I think Crowy is lovely, but she's just too tall' before we eventually got together...

But if I really liked the guy, it wouldn't be am issue. Certainly if everything is perfect between you when you're alone, absolute bollocks to other people giving you funny looks. They aren't important.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 24/05/2018 22:10

Stature

senioritabonita · 24/05/2018 22:11

Dwarf, Little Person or Person of Short Stature are the preferred terms. The medical name is dwarfism - 'I have family history of dwarfism' written in my medical notes Grin. My uncle prefers short statured and tells everyone. Otherwise dwarf is fine, although their first name is better! Grin

smithsinarazz · 24/05/2018 22:13

Yeah, well, it's other people's problem, isn't it, not yours? Unless it IS yours, in which case he's better off without you.
It sounds really bloody annoying though. Aren't people fuckwits sometimes?

Minionoftheantichrist · 24/05/2018 22:13

If you like him you like him and while stares or comments from strangers are horrible, don’t let them cheat you out of happiness by calling things off because of their ignorance and rudeness.

Dwarfism is a medical term and some people are ok with being called a dwarf. Many prefer person of restricted growth or small stature or small person.

ChinkChink · 24/05/2018 22:13

@NotAnotherNoughtiesTune I had someone 4'5 have a crush on me but I just couldn't do it even though I'm only 5.

You are too young to be on MN. Kindly leave the board.

SneakyGremlins · 24/05/2018 22:14

seniorita I call my friend "Zwergling" which means "Dwarfs" but I hasten to add I do have his bloody permission Grin the looks from passers by are great!

Minionoftheantichrist · 24/05/2018 22:14

Sorry my post crossed with senorita who has already explained how to refer to someone.

SneakyGremlins · 24/05/2018 22:14

Means dwarfY that's should say Hmm

Ninchninch · 24/05/2018 22:14

My DH is the 6"2 version of Peter Dinklage... it's uncanny!

dingit · 24/05/2018 22:17

I'm married to grumpy, does that count?
