If your husband called you a cunt, would you leave?

Every time you fell out?

HollowTalk · 30/03/2018 22:14

Yes, I would. He's throwing a huge insult at you and telling you exactly what he thinks of you.

(Please don't say he's a good dad.)

LEMtheoriginal · 30/03/2018 22:18

That very much depends on the context. I am quite foul mouthed and to me cunt is an everyday swearword. So "don't be a cunt" might be said in the same context as someone else might say "don't be silly". Dp quite often will say (to me) see that " cunt over there" might be referring to someone walking down the road or doing something daft. So completely innocuous.

BUT

We went through a difficult patch and to my shame we both have said it with venom and it nearly was the straw that broke the camel's back.

clumsyduck · 30/03/2018 22:20

A lot will say yes and these days id say yes but in reality and my past experience with my ex no I didn't leave . Did eventually though

PunkrockerGirl59 · 30/03/2018 22:22

Yes I would.
Shows a total lack of respect and love. I'd bin him into eternity and kick his sorry arse on the way out.

DamsonOnThisDress · 30/03/2018 22:23

Yeah, I would and I'm not a hater of that word - have used it myself.

I know it's apparently normal for some couples to shout and swear when arguing but I wouldn't put up with it. Everyone has their own limit though but I don't think anyone should accept name calling.

MinesABabyGuiness · 30/03/2018 22:23

It's not a word that offends me usually and I will use it now and again in a jokey way.

But this is with venom.

DH can't possibly see why I would be fed up with it by now.

OP posts:
PrettyLittIeThing · 30/03/2018 22:24

Nope.

MinesABabyGuiness · 30/03/2018 22:25

That's what I think. It will grind me down and eventually I will leave because of it.

Also fond of "nasty horrible fucking bitch" too.

OP posts:
Okaassan · 30/03/2018 22:26

The word is a non issue. People only find it so offensive because they think that they are supposed to find it offensive (outrage for outrage sake). It is very old fashioned to be outraged by its use in comparison to other swear words. However the fact he is swearing at you is another issue and if you don't like that kind of language then you shouldn't have to put up with it.

MysweetAudrina · 30/03/2018 22:27

Do you ever call him anything?

AtSea1979 · 30/03/2018 22:27

Depends on the context. If you were being a cunt and he told you and you usual have an honest and candid relationship then I’d appreciate his honesty and move on from the argument. If he usually never swears and you did nothing wrong then he’s being abusive and I’d run, fast.

Wolfiefan · 30/03/2018 22:28

Every time you fell out? Do you do this often? Sounds horrid.

gillybeanz · 30/03/2018 22:29

Yes, I would leave but as a pp suggested it's context.
Of course it has become an everyday word and used as banter by some people.
The intent from your husband is clearly not banter or throw away comments, it's the venom and the hatred that's the problem. Not the word.
I callmine a daft cunt sometimes, he calls me a silly cunt, it's never with venom.

StripySocksAndDocs · 30/03/2018 22:29

As a one off - no. As a frequent thing or along with other aggressions- yes.

justforthisnow · 30/03/2018 22:30

I wouldn't tolerate that. It's nonsense and disrespectful.
To the other poster re calling a woman walking down the street a " cunt"?
The 15th century called wondering when'd he'd be back. And hoping he wouldn't.

TeaforTiger · 30/03/2018 22:30

Yes.

You only get one life, why would you spend it with someone who clearly doesn't like you?

Betty2416 · 30/03/2018 22:31

No not at all dh uses the c word all the time. He always has called me one but that’s just the way he is and it’s not in a nasty way. Would think something was up if he didn’t call me one

Babababababybel14 · 30/03/2018 22:32

No me and dp call each other awful stuff when we get riled up. Never when the kids are home though. And it doesn't happen very often. Lots of horrible stuff can be said in the heat of the moment. But if you are not saying anything horrible back and he continues with horrible names then yes I would leave

MinesABabyGuiness · 30/03/2018 22:33

Yes I called him a scumbag. For shouting at me in front of our children and refusing to stop when asked.

It's just all the time. Agree it's not the word itself, it's the fact he's being so nasty towards me.

I probably was being a bit cunty in hindsight.

OP posts:
Babababababybel14 · 30/03/2018 22:34

You can't swear at him and expect to get nothing back. If I told my dp to fuck off in an angry way I'm 99% sure he would swear back at me

Thebluedog · 30/03/2018 22:35

For me, yes I would. My dp knows I hate the word and if he said it to me I’d know he was trying his best to be as horrid and insulting as possible. I had an ex (note the ex part) who used to call me a cunt when we argued. He didn’t last long. I actually think any type of insult slinging is wrong during an argument and shows a lack of emotional intelligence and a lack of respect

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2018 22:35

We don't use the word, it's awful, so anti feminist, but I'm not sure I'd leave over it, I'd have to look at context, but I would say if he ever ever called me that it would have to be a terrible argument and something bigger at play.

MinesABabyGuiness · 30/03/2018 22:35

I didn't call him any other names after that. I lost count the amount if horrible names me called me.

OP posts:
EveningHare · 30/03/2018 22:38

me and DH argue a -probably- normal amount, but if i tell him that i really dont like it when he says certain things, or he tells me he really doesnt like words/sayings etc, then even though we are angry we dont use them...

TeaforTiger · 30/03/2018 22:39

All this in front of your children? It's not ok OP, honestly.

I'm surprised so many people call their partners such awful names. How do you ever get past someone calling you a 'cunt' or 'nasty fucking horrible bitch' Shock
