Horrific abuse, husband jailed, but only 3 years. *Triggering* the details in the article are a bit graphic

This brief article in a local newspaper gives just a few details of a life lived in terror. The wife finally found the courage to have him prosecuted. She is maimed physically and mentally for life, he got only three years.

For those of you struggling to leave an abusive relationship, it is never too late, it took this lady 47 years but she did it, and I sincerely hope she is rebuilding her life with the support of friends and family and free from fear.

14 months for 47 YEARS of abuse? It’s sickening how lightly he has got off. He has tortured this woman and will likely spend just over 6 months in prison for it. What a fucking joke.

EagleRay · 21/02/2018 23:38

Just shocking - all of it Sad

I wonder what her children made of it all, and if they'd tried to intervene?

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 21/02/2018 23:45

Sentence reduced for no previous convictions??? He'd been committing the crime for 47 years - it's totally ridiculous.

FlyMaybe · 21/02/2018 23:57

Sickening.

Sounds as though his children may have been victims too...

AnduinsGirl · 22/02/2018 00:01

Why is violence against women just not taken seriously? That poor, poor woman.

NotASingleFuckToGive · 22/02/2018 00:05

Poor woman suffering for so long and so quietly. I hope she feels some peace now.

user764329056 · 22/02/2018 00:06

Fucking bastard, that sentence is a disgrace, shows how little women are valued by certain men in the criminal justice system

gluteustothemaximus · 22/02/2018 00:23

Women are of no value, clearly.

How sad. A crime of this magnetude is punished with barely a sentence. Barely a punishment even.

Sad
PinkPanther27 · 22/02/2018 00:28

Thanks for sharing this, I'm amazed at the leniency of his sentence.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/02/2018 00:41

14 fucking months?! That's so derogatory, it's not even funny Angry

Of course he has no previous, because he's never been caught before. They should stop giving these arseholes lighter sentences, just because it's the first time it's come to court - doesn't mean they were previously of good character, they were just previously never caught out before! Same with paedophiles, sex offenders etc. - they've been doing it for YEARS and it's taken you this fucking long to CATCH them, doesn't mean they've behaved themselves all that time, does it!!

and breathe.
Really makes me so fucking angry - and I can just bet if SHE had pushed HIM and he'd broken his fucking leg, she would have been locked up for much longer! Angry

Reddlion · 22/02/2018 04:30

absolutely disgusting

CobraKai · 22/02/2018 04:39

This article gives more horrific details.

He'll be out in 7 months. Disgusting.

niceupthedance · 22/02/2018 06:47

The judges's comments! He didn't mean to cause the injuries? Wtf was he kicking her for then. Awful.

I’m sure someone will come on to say it’s not the judges fault it’s just the sentencing guidelines

Why are the sentencing guidelines so incredibly low for convictions involving violence against women (& children)?

And of course the answer is obvious... because we just don’t matter.
:(

PussGirl · 22/02/2018 07:00

Bloody hell!

It seems she is starting divorce proceedings - good luck to her Flowers

userabcname · 22/02/2018 07:02

So he's not being charged with child abuse? How did he get away with that?

Belleende · 22/02/2018 08:06

It is sickening. If he had done this to a stranger I wonder what the sentence would be. I might ask in legal.

0ccamsRazor · 22/02/2018 08:28

So this man tortures and abuses his wife and children for 47 years and he gets a handful of months and a slap on his wrist? I sincerely hope his time in prison is just as tortuous as the 47 years he put his family through. Fucking cunt.

His poor wife Sad, I hope that she can now have peace for the rest of her life. I hope that the children and grandchildren can move on and never have anything to do with this monster of a human.

hellsbellsmelons · 22/02/2018 09:20

Our legal system never ceases to sadden me.
14 months!!!
Well, she is just a woman, she asked for it, so we won't punish him too much. Bless him!!!
Grrrrr...... When will DA and DV been punished properly?
This is sickening.
That poor woman.
I really hope she can find some peace now.

Champagneandthestars · 22/02/2018 12:31

I love the comment on the bottom of the article - 'Surely that's a mistake? It should read 14 years not months? '. Absolutely flabbergasted Sad

kaitlinktm · 22/02/2018 13:27

Holmes wrote a letter to the judge apologising for his actions, telling the judge that he didn't realise that beating his wife would result in him being in court and facing the possibility of prison.

WTF?

I am(almost) speechless. He put this into his letter of apology? Shock

PrimalLady · 22/02/2018 21:15

Reduces sentence for no previous wtf. They've literally rewarded him for not getting caught before now.
