The Brave Babes Battle Bus - New year, old battles, big resolve

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 21:22

Hi, I'm SweetLathyrus, Sweet for short, and I've been on and off Gerald the Brave Babes Battle Bus for years, so this time it's me standing in for our wonderful Mouse to invite you on board.

The bus is a place of support, safety and occasional silliness for those of us struggling with our relationship with alcohol. Some of us are sober, some are trying to be, some are moderating and aren't ready to give up alcohol just yet.

So whatever your reason for questioning the whys and WTFs of your drinking, hop on board, make yourselves comfortable and join in.

If you want to see what it's like, here's the link to the last thread, the one that saw us through Christmas.

And if you want to know how it all started, here is the link to JWN's original, inspiring thread.

Join us on our journey, you won't regret it.

need your vibes Babes. am in hotel on business and about to go for dinner..this is going to be a tough one as it has been a long day, I'm tired and there is nice drink at the bar.
Must
Stay
Strong

rothbury · 16/01/2018 19:25

Order yourself a soft drink, telling yourself you will have an alcoholic one later if you still want it.

By the time you have finished dinner the urge will have gone.

Twattage13 · 16/01/2018 19:31

If you are in a hotel can you get a mocktail?

Something in a nice glass that makes you feel like you've got a substitute? x

gingergenius · 16/01/2018 19:45

Ooh I want a mocktail now!!!

How about a tonic water so it feels like you're drinking a g&t?

bakingcupcakes · 16/01/2018 20:01

Don't give in Ma You can do it. You've already managed 2 weeks!

Well done taking the vodka back out Rothbury If I put something in the trolley it's highly unlikely it'd come back out again.

Slingsanderrors · 16/01/2018 20:21

Sending vibes Ma, being in a hotel must be so hard to resist temptation. I’m not sure I could.

Loubilou09 · 16/01/2018 20:26

Ma - same situation, nice hotel with work and I have had the loveliest of wine here in the past.

However, I have managed to track down a 0% Bavaria beer and it is slipping down just as well, after all we are doing Dry January are we not!!!

You will feel such a sense of achievement if you get this one out of the way and KNOW you can easily stay in a hotel with work and be AF if you choose.

Take a deep breath, get some yummy snacks and get a non alcoholic drink down you before deciding if you really do want that wine....

Loubilou09 · 16/01/2018 20:30

Slingsanderrors - of course she can resist temptation, she's a DJ Babe after all!

Let's not go encouraging her to drink by advocating how hard it is going to be eh? That's one sure fire way of sending someone some "justifying" vibes surely??

SweetLathyrus · 16/01/2018 21:05

Practice "I'll have a lime and soda, please" as you walk up to the bar, Ma, you are doing so well, stay strong.

You too Lou*

Phew, got home at 7, been working on tomorrows lecture since then, and I'm finally finished. Head hurts, eyes hurt, but I am SOBER.

Slingsanderrors · 16/01/2018 21:20

Loubilou I don’t think I was encouraging anyone to drink, and I didn’t say that Ma couldn’t resist temptation, I said that I would find it hard in that situation.

Anyway, day 8 completed here, despite WB husband being on his 2nd bottle of wine. Night all.

Thewomeninthemirror · 16/01/2018 21:32

Yes with the mock tail or ask for your drink in a wine glass? I do that quite often then friends never fire questions as to why I’m not drinking.

Does anybody else go to bed extra early to avoid sitting downstairs near the fridge?

dementedma · 16/01/2018 21:37

thank you all. the encouragement on here is just wonderful. Two lime and tonics down and am in bed safe and sober.
You all rock. Keep at it.

Yorkshireteaforme · 16/01/2018 21:39

I fell off the bus at the weekend - no real reason, no special birthday (belated happy birthday to demented), just low-level pissed off at a variety of small things. It didn't make me feel any better not surprisingly, so I climbed back aboard. Can I come back if I promise to bring a variety of different-coloured Opal Fruits and plenty of crisps?

Loubilou09 · 16/01/2018 21:43

Yay!!!! Well done Ma!! I am too in bed after two AF Bavaria beers - lights out now as we are an hour ahead of UK - night and go you!! Grin

Margie32 · 16/01/2018 21:46

Well done Ma, you are brilliant.

dementedma · 16/01/2018 21:49

yorkshire well done for climbing back aboard and double well done for bringing Opal fruits.

Yorkshireteaforme · 16/01/2018 22:01

I haven't been gone long enough to forget that your abbreviation is ma, not demented! Sorry, thanks for the welcome and well done for tonight.

CuileanDubh · 16/01/2018 22:37

Room for a fat bum on the bus?

ma so proud of you, ((((((((lookatyougobosie))))))))

spanna41 · 16/01/2018 22:41

Dubh hello flower how lovely to see you! How are you? Sending you loads of tinterweb bosies 💞 so good to have you back onboard. How's the terrorist doing? Hope all ok Thanks

Racingpost · 16/01/2018 22:55

Hi, just marking a place for now, hope okay

Twattage13 · 17/01/2018 06:09

Morning all - blimey day 17.

Am really tired today - usually I WFH on a Weds to split up the days I have travel 3 hours round trip to the client. But I have to be in today.

I'm still averaging 8 1/2 to 9 hours sleep - have had to cut my rooibos down to two cups a night otherwise was having to wee in the night!

yorkshire - just climb back on. I don't really go with this thing that AA do of starting again every time there's a small stepping into the sidecar unless it's frequent! Just get back on - we're all still here.

Right better get up...stuff to do.

Well done to everyone who managed in a hotel last night - also one of my nemesis situations but I'm much better now.

xxx

SweetLathyrus · 17/01/2018 06:44

Morning All.

DUBH fabulous babe, good to see you {{{{{t'interbosies all round}}}}}

Ma, Lou you are super-babes!

Yorkshire, keep trying.

An easier (its relative) work day for me today. I got a good sleep last night, but woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a bus! Three hours of lecturing, a couple of meetings then I can crack on with some more marking at home, and I can be more 'present' on the Bus.

Anyway this sober lark is beginning to work for me, so onwards and upwards, Babes, today WE will not drink!

Dubh!!!! Missed you girl, so good to see you quine. And yer arse looks slim and toned from where I’m sitting.

We can do this Babes...don’t let that fucking WW into your heads. Whatever Wednesday throws at us, booze is not the answer.

Day 152. Today I will not be drinking.

dementedma · 17/01/2018 07:31

dubh IS BACK!! [GRIN] [GRIN]
awwww man, we have missed you SO much. Where the fuck have you been? I'm up in your neck of the woods today - just a light dusting of snow. Sit down, sit down - here have this seat

dementedma · 17/01/2018 07:32
