The Brave Babes Battle Bus - New year, old battles, big resolve

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 21:22

Hi, I'm SweetLathyrus, Sweet for short, and I've been on and off Gerald the Brave Babes Battle Bus for years, so this time it's me standing in for our wonderful Mouse to invite you on board.

The bus is a place of support, safety and occasional silliness for those of us struggling with our relationship with alcohol. Some of us are sober, some are trying to be, some are moderating and aren't ready to give up alcohol just yet.

So whatever your reason for questioning the whys and WTFs of your drinking, hop on board, make yourselves comfortable and join in.

If you want to see what it's like, here's the link to the last thread, the one that saw us through Christmas.

And if you want to know how it all started, here is the link to JWN's original, inspiring thread.

Join us on our journey, you won't regret it.

Morning babes,

I agree with leaving the diet for a little later on you’re already dropping calories by not drinking.

rosegold yup, i’m very familiar with that description!

last do not rise to it. They are angry because they know they’re completely in the wrong and have been busted. You absolutely did the right thing and it’s out of your hands now. Are you tempted to laugh and point at the them like Nelson from the Simpsons ?....

SweetLathyrus · 09/01/2018 07:24

Morning All, and welcome Littlest and Mumzillia

Last what an awful man, pleased management are dealing with it.

Sorry, wasn't around last night, I just couldn't look at a screen for another minute longer. I still have a slightly swim head this morning, I just hope it's not the start of some lurgy.

Anyway, day 9, nearly at the magical double figures, last night definitely felt a little easier.

Off to the gym for some core work, then into work for meeting and more marking and prep. Today I will not drink.

Good morning everyone. I've had a slight boing putting out the recycling bin - normally I carry it like an exploded bomb or a baby who's just dropped off, trying not to clink and hiding the bottles under a layer of something else but the morning, the only clinking came from three bottles of Becks Blue and a few jam jars!
Today is day 9. Good luck to everyone who's feeling a bit crap and may the collective power of the Babes strike down last's nasty workmates.

SweetLathyrus · 09/01/2018 08:39

I keep meaning to say something about the recycling too, Yorks. Ours went on the 4th, and although there are a few bottles that wouldn't fit Blush at the bottom, so far it's just rose lemonade bottles and a gravy jar Grin

Morning all.
Just checking in with support for driers and triers.
AF days here, still trying.
Am beginning to wonder if it might just be easier to abstain.
I am bored of thinking about drinking!
Hope all your Tuesdays go well X

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 09/01/2018 09:52

I think the main problem with not being a liar, telling the truth and saying it how it is lands you in trouble.

It seems to be ok if you are two faced and be dishonest.

I'm sorry my big mouth back fires but people need to realise that you just cannot go behind peoples backs and expect to come out looking like a hero xx

Loubilou09 · 09/01/2018 10:02

Yorkshire I love putting out the recycling when I am dry Grin

theansweris42 I feel EXACTLY the same when I am trying to moderate - bored of thinking about drinking...It is so much easier to abstain, I just wish I could abstain for ever!

Didn't sleep as well last night and today was children's first day back at school so everyone was up early. But even with lack of sleep I was up and out exercising fairly early. I would have never done that had I been drinking, not only because I felt like crap but I was always paranoid I stank of wine, horrible

dementedma · 09/01/2018 10:12

checking in on Day 9 and determined to reach double figures for only the second time since I joined this bus! Positives being noticed are better sleep, skin is softer and has lost its sallow tone, face less puffy, wine belly down a bit. Got my size 14 trousers on today - yay, for me.

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 09/01/2018 10:18

dementedma

Well done! its such a good feeling! keep going! xxx

Loubilou09 · 09/01/2018 10:47

*demented" I dream of being back in a 14! no size 10's here....

Well done you!!

Whatevermaybe · 09/01/2018 11:08

Morning everyone, we seem to be moving in the right direction, double figures for a few babes tomorrow Smile. My mornings have been less stressful as have a clear now and not being a shouty mum (well not as bad when I’m feeling hungover Blush. My new book came this morning - The sober diaries, so plan for tonight is bath and start reading the book x

MintToBee · 09/01/2018 11:22

Checking in on Day 15!
It's -3, frosty but sunny.

dementedma
Well done!!!Flowers

Im jealous of you gym bunnies! I haven't managed the gym at all and it's two weeks into January. DP was supposed to take me every day (negotiated for something for him to do as he hasn't worked since the end of November) but as he's never up before noon these days, it's gone out the window. I need to figure out buses from next week as I really want to go back. I feel like a big fat mess. I was doing so well last year. Sad

Yorkshireteaforme
Thanks for reminding me it's in day!

Loubilou09 · 09/01/2018 11:29

MintToBee A lot of my exercise is not done at the gym, went cycling this morning with DH across the commons. I also run but have had an injury so putting that on hold for the minute but do a lot of walking as well as the cycling. Are you able to get out without going to the gym? it helps me massively when going DRY, in fact I think an hours worth of exercise daily is the equivalent of a bottle of wine for me. Has a huge, huge impact on my resolve and head/well being.

guggenheim · 09/01/2018 11:47

Well done ma have the frock of fabulousness 💃🏼

Just going to wave and see if saucepan makes it over here- please do join.

MintToBee · 09/01/2018 11:48

Loubilou09
I'm very rural Scotland so running is limited to daylight hours/logging lorries/farm traffic/ weather .
I started Couch25k last summer and am just waiting for lighter days ( it gets light around 8.30 ATM) and not sub zero temperatures!
I do have popsugar workouts loaded on YouTube, a deflated gym ball and a set of dumbbells. I just need a huge kick up the arse to get going with it. Please feel free to oblige!!! I put the Pro into ProcrastinationWink
Lambing/calving season is just starting as well so that's my sleep about to be screwed. Grin

mumzilla2 · 09/01/2018 12:12

So I've been to the shop and not bought wine. At least I'm not having to hide today so no one smells wine on me. It's only day one.

Loubilou09 · 09/01/2018 12:29

Ahhh well I am not much of an arse kicker to be honest Grin and do a fairly good job of procrastination myself! I did come across something the other day on Sky called Fit in 5 which I thought looked quite good - just 5 minutes every day. Also trampolining (if you have one) and skipping are good - weighted skipping rope for 15 minutes is bloody hard work!! All of these would warm you up in the sub zero temperatures :)

cafenoirbiscuit · 09/01/2018 12:46

Is there room for me to get on too? I’ve seen the bus around these parts for years but haven’t waited at the stop before. I’m on 8af days out of 10 and am sooo thirsty! And I have a bad head today which is Not Fair cos I don’t have a hangover.

I had wine at the weekend but didn’t really enjoy it. I need to lose weight and not feel ashamed of my wine consumption. My trigger point is 6pm in the evening so I’m trying to ignore temptation. I’m inspired by so many of your stories, and am enjoying reading the old threads

dementedma · 09/01/2018 13:00

well done mumzilla that was a hard thing to do. just focus on today

Welcome cafenoir please climb aboard and make your self at home.

I could do with that 5 minute workout thingy. I am a lazy mare.

flowersonthepiano · 09/01/2018 13:44

Oh God, the recycling! yorks Sweet - We have two extra bin bags full in the garage from before we quit that we couldn't fit in the full size wheelie bin Shock Blush

Congratulations Ma! I too dream of being a size 14 – I very much identify with the wedding dress scene in Miranda, where they ask her size and she says ‘I’m a ten....(ty)‘ Blush. Anyway, despite that, I’m really enjoying my exercise. Swimming this morning and doggies are getting twitchy for their walk.
Hi cafe and well done on day one mumzilla
Day 9 here for me.

DryFebruary · 09/01/2018 14:01

Day 11! (High five MrsCain ✋)

All of my friends who are doing Dry January have crumbled... I’ve got an action-packed week of gym and socialising planned but I think it’ll be doable.

I am still eating everything Blush

lynmilne65 · 09/01/2018 14:20

margie
me to a T !!

LittlestTruck · 09/01/2018 14:20

I wanted to start today but not sure I have the willpower quite yet but will stick to 5 units or less and tomo buy no more if I could do 2x AF nights this week that will be a start at least. Well done to everyone I'm feeling inspired reading how you're all getting on thank you

beachestoexplore · 09/01/2018 14:30

Checking in on day 5, I was a bit slow off the starting blocks this year but getting into the groove now.

I am also a lazy mare Ma, my intentions are good but I would prefer to get fit by osmosis - perhaps if I stand close enough to the gym.... Grin I am a dog walker but even that has stalled lately, we have had temperatures of -15 with an additional wind chill. Brass monkeys!

Spanna I did clock the 1000 days, that is beyond brilliant flower. I hope your work situation is improving x

Love the picture of the 3 storey bus (can’t remember which babe) it is how I picture us, packed full of babes, old and new in various frocks and smocks. Love to all xx

Yorkshireteaforme · 09/01/2018 16:22

I have to say, to the people who are struggling with moderating their intake, I tried for YEARS to moderate, to only drink on a weekend, or to only have one, or to only drink on alternate days or whatever. I always failed.
I find it actually easier to have nothing at all because it stills that voice inside your head which is constantly thinking about what you can have and when. Huge congratulations if you can do it though because you obviously have much better willpower than me.
