The Brave Babes Battle Bus - New year, old battles, big resolve

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 21:22

Hi, I'm SweetLathyrus, Sweet for short, and I've been on and off Gerald the Brave Babes Battle Bus for years, so this time it's me standing in for our wonderful Mouse to invite you on board.

The bus is a place of support, safety and occasional silliness for those of us struggling with our relationship with alcohol. Some of us are sober, some are trying to be, some are moderating and aren't ready to give up alcohol just yet.

So whatever your reason for questioning the whys and WTFs of your drinking, hop on board, make yourselves comfortable and join in.

If you want to see what it's like, here's the link to the last thread, the one that saw us through Christmas.

And if you want to know how it all started, here is the link to JWN's original, inspiring thread.

Join us on our journey, you won't regret it.

Thanks trying. i don't feel unwell at all, just shooting pains in my head and face at times. very annoying

Yorkshireteaforme · 07/01/2018 11:33

I hope you feel better soon ma. My mother is visiting and she's annoying the life out of me. It's nothing new but I would normally mark her departure with a large glass of wine and having her here is the closest I've felt to drinking all week. Any useful coping strategies? Apart from hiding until she's left? Confused

Whatevermaybe · 07/01/2018 11:56

Hi everyone, Day 7 honestly not managed this for ages (I know I’ve already said this but a week under my belt. Well done to everyone else too. Pats on the back all round. Thread moved very quickly so have a bit of catching up to do. Plans for today cinema with partner and kids to see Ferdinand this afternoon x

bakingcupcakes · 07/01/2018 12:02

My day has started well. I've been cleaning my filthy house. To my horror the marks on the white bannisters are dirt! They come off. It made me feel slightly ill.

DS's arm looks much better than yesterday. So pleased. Been sorting stuff for work, made Yorkshire puddings for tea. I feel very efficient!

It's day 7 for me today and I feel positive.

Get well thoughts to Ma, Lux, Mint and anyone else feeling rough.

Luckingfovely · 07/01/2018 12:10

Glad to hear so many are feeling positive on day 7. Six days AF - I can't quite believe it of myself. So proud of everyone managing it! I slept for 10 hours straight last night. 10 hours! I'm not sure I've ever done that before in my life. There might be something in this here not-drinking-malarkey, hey?

Also a weird thing on dreams - anyone else finding this? It is as if my dreams are finally completely themselves - so I am re-dreaming things that I've dreamt before - but dreaming further on with the story. It's quite peculiar.

BernieBear · 07/01/2018 12:51

Well done Twattage that's a great run! You should be proud. I too would like to get a sub 30 mins 5k. Off for my AF Chinese buffet now 😁😇

SweetLathyrus · 07/01/2018 14:11

Successful shopping trip. I treated myself to two skirts in the sales (good thing I've saved £49 so far from not drinking).

Twattage I'm impressed with your times already Grin!

Baking, glad your DS's arm is better - pass any spare Yorkshire puddings this way!

Mint that looks fabulous, SweetDog would have an epic case of the zoomies there. So sorry to hear about your friend, that is awful. A friend who is a senior A&E nurse says it is the worst flu season they have seen for a good few years.

Small your subconscious is having a good old clear out, sit back and enjoy the show Wink

Yorks how was Hard Sun? I really liked Luther, but I'm not sure how much that was just liking Idris Elba!

yorkshire lock her in a wardrobe???

Went to the beach today for some fresh air and found hundreds and hundreds of dead starfish. So sad. I love starfish and have never even seen one before on this beach. What has caused it?

Yorkshireteaforme · 07/01/2018 14:30

It was a mercifully short visit ma and is already over. Am recuperating with Grey's Anatomy and herbal tea. Sweet - I thought Hard Sun was really good, and a really interesting premise for a tv series. It's pretty violent though, and the main male character is a right wanker. Definitely one for sober viewing - you'd never follow it drunk!

SweetLathyrus · 07/01/2018 14:57

Ma they often get washed up by storms, so it will have been from last week's storms.

Yorks I'll give it a go then.

My Aunt is in Florida. It's the coldest, stormiest January they've ever had. She said the Sea Turtles are coming up on the beach and dying, along with the Iguanas. But of course, the orange twat says global warming doesn't exist. SadAngry

tryingtobethebestican · 07/01/2018 17:39

twattage that's a brilliant time especially considering you haven't run in 7 weeks. Well done.
I AM going to go to the gym tomorrow!

tryingtobethebestican · 07/01/2018 17:42

twattage also I bet you anything that you will beat your PB in the next few months, you'll be so much fitter with no alcohol.

SweetLathyrus · 07/01/2018 17:57

Well two things have happened today that bode well for the rest of the month.

First, although I had a little think about how nice a glass of wine might be at around 2 o'clock, it didn't hang around, and right now (my very worst time of the day) I honest don't even fancy it.

Second my sweet cravings seem to have calmed a little, I've still had a couple of Christmas choices, but I've not mainlined a whole box.

I know this is only today, but it's good to remember that there are smooth times as well as rough ones.

Aw thanks all - I am not made for running at all but I do enjoy it. I checked back on my watch (it's so long since I synced it as haven't been out) and it's actually 8 weeks since I ran. So v pleased with that. Only having to walk for 2 mins is really good for me.

I can't wait to see what I can do.

Right all I am already in bed with tea - me and the boy are going to watch a couple of downloads and then I'll be into the land of nod. Already feeling extremely sleepy!

Well done sweet on the cravings...sounds like you are feeling better today than yesterday.

Night night all.

x

Day 7 done. it's been a very long time since I got this far. I seem to remember failing early on with Dry January last year. I think my all time record is 10 days since i was last pregnant, over 16 years ago! Dh isn't helping by drinking cold beer in front of me. thanks a lot!

Whatevermaybe · 07/01/2018 19:16

Well done everyone who’s managed a week. I think there needs to be smug smocks all roundGrin. Don’t get me wrong it’s not easy but glad this first week is done x

dementedma · 07/01/2018 19:20

Sod the smocks of smug, they are SO last year. This year it's Frocks of Fabulosity...form an orderly queue down the bus for your sequin spangled gowns. Feather boas optional

AnneBoleynsHead · 07/01/2018 19:20

Hi Babes, de-lurking to add I'm on day 7. Have had a cold so haven't felt like drinking anyway. Loving the full fast-moving bus this week.Brew Mainly drinking green tea with lemon.
