After only being with my exh for years and years i have met someone and slept with him once so far but since then i have been worried about hiv, as this man has slept with ALOT of women in his single days but never been tested. I am now worried sick, why didnt i use anything, alcohol involved i am afraid. Does anyone know the risks of donig it only once, I feel like i can't do it again. Advice please, but pleases no lectures

I would go to your nearest sexual health clinic and explain whats happened. I dont think they can test you for HIV until 6 months after unprotected sex. They will be able to test you for other SIDs though and may be able to put your mind at rest

The risks of unprotected sex once are pretty low, so you are highly unlikely to have anything to worry about re:HV though of course there are no guarantees of anything - even if the odds were 1 in a million, you could still be very unlucky and be that one. There are other STDs like chlamydia, etc that are more likely, so I guess be very wary of any odd symptoms/pains/discharge. You could take a test for HIV if that would help reassure you - i think you can do it anonymously - not sure if there are still any implications these days of taking an HIV test for life assurance etc. assessment so would have thought that taking the test anonymously might help - You would have to go back for a repeat test in a few months time tho coz HIV can take a whilte to show up. Could you ask him to use a condom next time? I know its dead embarassing, but that is the only way to protect against STDs. I'm sure we've all done things under the influence of alcohol that we've regretted - so hope that noone would presume to lecture you!
