i have always found my pil difficult to be around so have never been to see them or invited them round without dh being there.

just wondered if many people see mil/pil without dh.

We live about 200 miles away so they tend to come and stay for a few days.

Whenever they do, DH retires to bed with a migraine so I'm left downstairs trying to entertain them. It makes me so cross as I don't really like them myself!

Must remember to get my own migraine in first next time

I try to avoid it where possible. We're not friends and they're certainly not people I would choose to spend time with had I not married their son. I don't expect DH to entertain my folks alone either. But then my family don't stay for days and days.. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

PeachesMcLean · 01/04/2007 08:28

Good lord no. She's tricky to chat to - she's ok but I wouldn't relish seeing her on my own. Having said that, DH would see my mother alone - they get on quite well.

All the time, in fact taking the kids to see them later while dh at work, for about 4 hours, I love seeing them and watching them play with the kids. Looks like i'm in the minority!

All the time....partly the reason that we moved to where we are now....my dh is away often, and Fil does so much to help...like mow our lawn and stuff.
TBH, since we lived here, I actually see them more often then he does.
I really get on wiht them, though...that probably helps!

WilkieBarEasterEgg · 01/04/2007 08:45

Yep, get on well with them so take DS once a week/10 days to see them on my own.

bozza · 01/04/2007 08:46

I do. And also my SIL and nephew.

willywonkasEgghunt · 01/04/2007 08:51

No, but my PIL live 3500 miles away

warthog · 01/04/2007 09:20

yes, i see mil far more than dh does, and speak to her regularly on the phone. average conversation length: 30 mins!

hoxtonchick · 01/04/2007 09:23

yes, as mil looks after dd once a week & i get home first. she normally hangs around for a chat & a cup of tea. i also see sil & her kids all the time with my kids. i'm pleased i get on so well with them.

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 01/04/2007 09:24

snap hoxton

Quootiepie · 01/04/2007 09:25

No way, never. I even hide in the car if he pops in there now. He has gone out before, while we were round there, and she just went to look at porn on the PC and left me alone in the livingroom for an hour or so.

swifterella · 01/04/2007 09:26

i see MIL occasionaly without DP as he works so much. Also chat on the phone alot. She's nice!

wangle99 · 01/04/2007 09:29

See mine all the time, live next door to them!!! Even when we didn't live next door to them I used to come and see MIL quite often, drop in for cups of tea etc.

quootiepie - have never heard of a MIL looking at porn, especially when dc are about!!

TrinityRhino · 01/04/2007 10:27

all the time, MIL lives 5 mins away. shes lovely, we were close anyway but whe FIL died we became closer as I had been the one there to help her pick herself up again

BigCremeEggs · 01/04/2007 10:38

no as mil had banned all her family and friends since she got married 4 yrs ago!....

sniff · 01/04/2007 10:40

I try very hard not to. even then I still have to about 3 times a year under sufferance

fuzzywuzzy · 01/04/2007 10:41

No why should I, I only suffer them as dh forces me to go with him on holiday(?) (yes darling spending three weeks, cooking and cleaning, getting down on my hands and knees and mopping the floors with a rag, and washing the hole in the floor toilet, in inhuman tmeperatures, is soooo my idea of a holiday....)

Chandra · 01/04/2007 10:47

Never, ever but I accept our circumstances are quite extreme.

eidsvold · 01/04/2007 10:47

when we lived in the UK - i would meet mil and sil without dh. They are both lovely and I enjoy their company.
