Any hotel receptionists out there who can help, please?

Firstly, is a room reservation always confirmed by sending an email to the person who booked?
And
In that email, if the room has a queen bed as standard do you put the number of guests down as 2 as standard as well, even if the guest has not mentioned a second guest? In other words, if it says two on the booking ref is it definite 2 ppl stayed there?

WindyTwigs. It doesn't mean anything, as shown above. However, if he was in a country with Tourist Tax you might be able to get a better idea from the invoice because that's per person. However, in your position I'd want something a bit more concrete than that, because he might not have bothered to ask them to change it if work are paying.

What else has got you thinking he's cheating on you?

I stay in Travelodge mainly for work. Last month my booking was for a double room and it shows on booking confirmation as 2 person. It seems to be their default. Definitely booked 1 adult, and only me staying.

It was while he was working away, paid for himself, but using a work email, which apparently he can only access while away. So I can't get hold of it, and wouldn't give any proof anyway.
I found evidence he had intended cheating while away a long time ago, nothing else comcrete in-between, but was out a lot and messaging with one woman in particular, which got me wondering. She sent FB message pictures of her cocktails to him on a sightseeing day apart - seemed odd to me, who does this?

Not sure abiut the work email.

I can access mine in my laptop. Anywhere

I would not be letting dh go through them though. I have signed a fairly lengthy agreement ro this effect.

I used to work in hotels. We always put down 2 adults if the room had a double bed.

The email is only likley to have the basic details. Date, room type, number of people, if it was room only or bed and breakfast and number of nights.

And no emails didnt always get sent. Or they get sent straight to the accounts department. Especially if the company used the hotel often.

What do you mean by "a work email he can only access whilst away"?

Are you in his work email now to see the booking confirmation?

If so, phoning the hotel and asking for the invoice to be emailed might help, eg how many breakfasts paid for.

Last night I booked a hotel for my DH in London for tomorrow night, confirmation says 2 people, I didn't put that into the booking.

Both my husband and I can only access our work email when at work/on work computers for security reasons, so it's a no go at home.....

I often have 2 on a booking just for myself.

I've also sent random things via FB messenger which could easily be something like (although not this example) a cocktail on a day sightseeing apart to male friends I have travelled with for work if it relates to a joke or something from a shared experience just to keep in touch.

I'm most definitely not having and wouldn't even consider having an affair with them so I hope their partners wouldn't feel concern. I adore my own DH (and would be happy for him to have open access to anything on my email and messenger).

Not to minimise it but hopefully to give you explanation of a scenario where it is totally innocent. If you have seen and say there are multiple messages I assume he isn't hiding it?

No, we have a booking for somewhere else, I noticed it has the number of guests on the confirmation sent to the 'home' email. Which made me wonder why I hadn't seen the previous confirmation email.

Easy to delete messages though, isn't it? He knew I would have access to the account before I actually looked. I've not felt the need to check up before, so had to ask for the password.

If you are worried you could try booking a fully refundable double room for 1 person and see what the confirmation says? Use the same booking site/method he used (If he used a booking engine like trivago the confirmation would be from them not the hotel). As soon as you get the confirmation cancel it.

Emails are usually sent out automatically but only if a valid email is on the booking.(some people prefer not too)

The system I used on reception, if you put a room into the system it would automatically flag up as two people I unless you manually change it ☺️

Unless he works in a highly secure environment and emails can only be accessed via a company laptop/PC, this is bollocks.

Even for companies with high security requirements, there are plenty of solutions to allow employees to access their emails remotely, e.g. via encrypted phone apps.

However to return to your original question about having the booking confirmation sent to his work address, yes that would be completely normal. They just send it to whichever email address you give whilst booking, and as it was work-related travel I would expect him to use his work email, not his personal one.

Does he have a work laptop? Its not unusal to not have access if you dont.

Many people dont have a work phone or laptop.

Op he could be cheating or you could be paranoid. Its impossible for any of us to say.

I do believe it is true that he uses a different email while away because it is only accessible on the work computers there. I think someone commented earlier that they have this too. No work laptop.

naked good idea, although wouldn't I lose a non refundable deposit? Anyway, I don't think I could use this as conclusive evidence, based on the number of ppl who have experienced booking a room for one but it saying two on the confirmation. It might be company policy to do one thing, but could easily be reasoned away by a different receptionist doing something different, or whatever.

Is the hotel part of a big chain or booked with a booking website? If so if you can tell us which one then someone will probably have experience of their confirmations and can let you know.

If it's not either if these then usually hotels have a fully refundable rate with no deposit. Usually more expensive than than standard by you will get the lot back or they just won't take it at all. For example I just did a dummy Hilton booking. Just needed my details and my CC details but could canx any time before the day of booking with no deposit so it wouldn't even show up on CC.
(By the way the Hilton conf says 1 guest and I had the option to add other guests names but it's a king room)

It was booked direct, a large chain. Won't specify atm as if I don't see the confirmation, I don't know if it's one or two guests anyway!

Email confirmation isn't always sent but largely yes. And the system often defaults to 2 regardless of what info we've been given
