Ok this is going to be a bit longwinded but here goes...Last night we had some freinds round for drinks and DP and some others was smoking outside the back door, right underneath DS window. This morning he woke up at 530 with a nasty croupy cough. Now he is realy ok and this has happened before not always after his dad was smoking but i just wonder if it's connected. Have just been kicked out of bed by DP to go downstirs to care for ds and have been told it has nothing to do with the fact his father was smoking underneath his window last night . Am thinking of telling DP to take his stinking fagsto the bottom of the garden next to the compost bin-am i being unreasonable ?

If your DS's window was shut then I think it was coincidence. Even if were wide open, would probably be coincidence. Actually - in that case, probably more likely to be connected to it being very cold.
Having said that, assuming the window was shut, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get your DH to commit to moving down the end of the garden when the weather warms up and DS's window is open.

have you seen this?

next door smoke prmeating into their house

I would get him avoid smoking directly underneath the window. Even if the smoke is unlikely to be a health hazard, the smell seeping in will certainly be unpleasant.

We had a neighbour that lived beneath us who used to smoke indoors , but if his or our window was open we could always smell it in our bedroom.

unless there were 50 of them smoking 20 fags each. i doubt it's why he has a cough, but it's not unreasonable to ask them to move further away- even if it's just to avoid the rotten smell.
