Pills for sex drive and acne

As a first time user of Mumsnet 'talk' just wondering if anyone can help me as I have no faith in the Drs that I have. (Another issue altogether!)

I have never had an increadibly high sex drive, and have always had the odd pimple or three - nothing that bothered me 'too' much although did get to me on the odd occassion.

I want to know if there is anyone who know of a mini-pill (as I am still breastfeeding our dd of 6mths) and/or pill that will help with sex drive and also acne. (I am 33 now and really don't want to be dealing with acne or pimples that you would see on a teenager!)

Hope that someone may have some thoughts and advice to help me get back into a sex life and stop me looking like a teenager!

AAHHH - the other thing that I have heard and am a little worried about is constant bleeding that some pills cause? Do I sound parinoid or what?!?! I am not really - just want to get to the bottom of things and get on with some passionate times!

Ooh, a wonder pill!

I am no expert by any means, but I think the problem is that a low sex drive can be helped by testosterone, but acne can be helped by oestrogen, so it would be very hard to find both in one pill?

OK - Thanks for your help - was wondering if I was looking for the 'wonderpill' of the centry. Don't you hate that!

IIRC The only contraceptive pill that is licenced for use as an anti acne drug is Dianette. But this contains Oestrogens and progesterone, and cannot be taken when you are breast feeding. You will also have to get a GP to prescribe it, as you can't get it over the counter. I don't know what it's effect on sex drive would be. Some women find that the OC lowers their sex drive, and others find it improves things, as the fear of unwanted pregnancy is reduced.

My daughter is on Dianette, it has taken a long while but has helped her spots, it also stopped the hairiness. I don't know about the sex drive bit she is only just 16!

All sounds interesting and perhaps I should see if I can speak to a 'health proffessional'. I just don't feel that they particularly give a dam and just want you out the door within the 10 minutes.

I am also glad to hear about the fact that you are not sure about your daughter Alibubbles - then again at 16, you never know. I know what I was up to at 16 - only just mind you and with a steady boyfriend, but still .... sorry.

Thanks to you all for your help though. Most appreciated, as the home issue is getting worse not better!

I started taking Dianette last year after my daughter was born (took a different pill before that) and it definitely has helped with my skin. I've always had problems and it's been clear now for the first time in years. As for the sex drive, I don't know about that. Mine's certainly not non-existent, but not exactly raging like a teenager either! Don't know if the pills make it worse, but I'm pretty sure they don't help in that department.

My gut feeling is that if I went off the pill my sex drive would perk up, but I don't think it's worth the hasslse of a)more spots and b)dealing with other types of contraception.
