Brave Babes - Barging through 2017 in style

Hello, I'm SweetLathyrus (Sweet for short), and I've been hopping on and off Gerald the Brave Babes Battle Bus for three years now because, like some many of us, I struggle with alcohol.

The Bus is a supportive community at all stages in their relationship with alcohol and with lots of different goals - for some, it's abstinence, for others it's moderation, for others, it's just about getting a bit of control and perspective.

So, if you think you'd like to join us, don't be shy, flag us down and jump on board and share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with; sometimes there will be silliness, but there will always be help and support.

If you would like to know how the Bus first rattled into action, here is the first ever thread

And if you would like to know where we have been more recently, here is the most recent thread

Margie that's good news all round a a promotion for DH and a you being able to celebrate it sober. It's the patience that is always a revelation to me. Grin

I am finding real clarity of thinking, i have been putting off some stuff at work because I could get my head around it, just seemed too wooly. Today I have zoomed through the lot and think I have put together some really exciting stuff for some of my students.

It's lime and tonic for me too, I wondered briefly what would be the harm in putting a splash of gin in it, but the answer was so obvious I didn't need to think twice.

Birthday tomorrow and still not sure whether I will drink or not. Cooked chicken tonight and put a splash of white wine in it....And swigged a glug out of the bottle!!!!
Jeez.Does it never go away?

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2017 19:13

I'm not sure it does, Ma. Just don't pour a glass.

OP posts:
dementedma · 13/01/2017 19:33

No, I'm ok now. Just had an overwhelming desire to taste it.

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2017 19:40

Did it taste how you expected?

OP posts:
dementedma · 13/01/2017 19:43

I suppose so. I haven't had any more so am still counting it as AF!

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2017 19:47

So, It hasn't changed. Not magical or miraculous, and you are still on your record AF streak Smile

I am so sick of water!!!!
I really just want wine. Friday night and I'm contemplating going to bed. I keep thinking, just one won't count. Yeah. Right. One multiplied by two bottles later.
Am right fed up tonight.

dementedma · 13/01/2017 19:56

I hear you mint
Lime and tonic here now. Can you cosy up in bed with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book?

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2017 20:02

Mint it has often been written on here, and it is very, very true: Nobody regrets not drinking the next morning.

Yes water is getting boring; but why? - I would drink the same wine for weeks on end with out getting bored!

OP posts:
Margie32 · 13/01/2017 21:20

I hear you Mint - DH has done my head in tonight and I would love a glass of wine...but it wouldn't just be one glass and therein lies the problem. Just think how brilliant Saturday is going to be when you start it clear-headed and with energy.

I have eaten so much chocolate today I've actually made myself feel sick...turns out it's not only drinking that I can't do in moderation!

dementedma · 13/01/2017 21:38

I asked the family if they thought I should have a drink on my birthday tomorrow when I go to my friends for dinner and sleepover. DS(14) said, " You'll probably be ok to drink, but I would hold back on the drugs and prostitutes" Shock

aliasjoey · 13/01/2017 22:41

ma lol 😄

LuxuryWoman2017 · 13/01/2017 22:45

Just calling in to say goodnight. Hope everyone had a good evening, sweet dreams.

Oh, one thing, does anyone else who's managed a dry stretch still wake up and wonder how they're going to feel? I'm still expecting a mild hangover. My waking thought is 'is my head ok?' I got so used to feeling mildly shit I didn't think of it as hungover.

CuileanDubh · 13/01/2017 22:54

Evening all! Got a bit of boing today. Still doing it. I might have to work tomorrow so have to have an early night. One of the team has been vomiting today, perhaps just migraine related but I'm on standby just in case it's not. would rather have a jammies day if it's going to be this ruddy cold

Feel a bit more positive today. I've just ordered some more food for her, good organic food, (grass fed lamb, sweet potato and a whole raft of botanicals) and some supplements the referral vets suggested. And back on her beef tea. It won't beat us. Come summer she will be back in her beloved forest.

I have had to diet her for months now, what with the lack of exercise etc. Her weight has been pretty constant, she does get the odd treat but I am all about the portion control. It struck me tonight, if I can do that for a greedy, food obsessed lab, why the bloody hell can't I do it for me, a greedy, food and wine obsessed lab owner?

From Monday it will be Clean Eating for me. No white bread/pasta (bye toast) and a concentrated effort to Be Good.

ma and spanna your photies are lovely, just lovely.

42 Love The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie! I used to walk my two old lovely labs, they were my 'gels'. They didn't go to fight for Franco or anything though.

sweet I would give the terrorist a thousand duvets to make her happy, just not tonight, toooo cold! Grin I have also ordered her a chew resistant nest, I suspect it will be chew resistant confetti in a month or so but hey. Thank god for insurance, they have been wonderful. Wish they'd pay out for her bed trashing habit...

lunk I bet it's gey draughty up wi you just now, eh?

margie aaah nice to have a bit of good news m'dear!

hope elba and beaches throwing you both a wee bosie, if nowt else it will keep you warm on this very chilly night. Please excuse the hairs. Grin

joey clean eating means no rowies apparently. I feel like I might go off this idea reaaaaalllly quickly Grin how are you doing quine? Doos aye peckin awa? xx

I am on the cherry coke. Will be water only next week. Night night all, sweet dreams.

CuileanDubh · 13/01/2017 22:57

ma Grin at your Ds's kindly advice. Wise words there Grin

Margie32 · 14/01/2017 07:24

Happy birthday Ma! Have a good one - you deserve it! And GrinGrinGrin at your teenager with a sense of humour!

SweetLathyrus · 14/01/2017 08:17

Morning All.

Woke up with a bit of a sinus headache this morning, Margie, but feel 'clear ' under it, if that makes sense. I had certainly got to the point where I was so permanently hung over, I barely noticed and thought the fog and nausea was normal. The horror of disposing of the cat's nightly 'gifts' hungover

Dubh pet insurance has been worth every single premium. We are with PetPlan who are expensive but never quibble. When Puss was 4/5 months old she cost them over £1800 which they removed an exemption to honour, thanks to our lovely vet. Last year Sweet Dog had two lots of conjunctivitis (from sticking his head down rabbit holes), a scratched cornea (running through brambles), and an over night at the emergency vet being stitched up where barbed wire and a piece of wooden stake nearly pierced his bladder (hunting through undergrowth again). I have no idea what that cost, because I never saw the bill, but somewhere north of £800. He also needs their high level of public liability because he comes to work with me. I bet your old Labs were the creme de la creme Grin.

Ma when they're not being completely grotty, teenage boys are hilarious (mine is anyway)! Happy birthday, lovely, Brave Babe Flowers Cake

Off for a frosty walk now, have a good af day babes
