...pseudo intellectual

Isn't that just a negative way of describing a student?

We were in a Relate session.

Nah, said in the context of a relate session, it just means that he feels dwarfed by your intelligence.

Cashncarry · 15/02/2007 09:48

My understanding is that calling somebody a "pseudo" anything means that they're faking that particular quality. I think I'd be a little insulted.

Is it your first session?

SSShakeTheChi · 15/02/2007 09:50

To me it's an insult but he may not have understood the meaning of pseudo

ShowOfHands · 15/02/2007 09:50

I think I would take it to mean 'you think you're an intellectual and you're not'. Did he elaborate?

Carmenere · 15/02/2007 09:52

Well it is obvious what he meant but it certainly doesn't mean it is true.

fireflyfairy2 · 15/02/2007 09:53

Yes, It means you think you're clever but you're not [in his opinion]

He feels threatened.

fireflyfairy2 · 15/02/2007 09:53

I would feel hugely insulted. How dare he insinuate that you are not intellectual.

Monkeytrousers · 15/02/2007 10:31

Sorry yes, we both knew what it meant (being so clever ).

I just meant how stupid an insult is that? To call a student a wannabe intelectual. Can you imagine a lecturer doing that?

He just totally undermined his own argument

Yes, it was our first session. It was quite funny. I'm not offended by his insults anymore cos I can see them as desperate, childish attempts to get the upper hand by upsetting me.

OP posts:
fireflyfairy2 · 15/02/2007 10:37

Is he a lecturer?

Carmenere · 15/02/2007 10:38

Well exactly MT is was merely a pathetic attempt at insulting you and says much more about him than you tbh

morningpaper · 15/02/2007 10:40

that means you use longer words than him and sometimes he gets confused

it's just his defence mechanism

think of more long words to use in the next session to confuse him more

Monkeytrousers · 15/02/2007 10:44

He would wish FF. He is mr logic however, he thinks

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 15/02/2007 10:47

OP posts:
morningpaper · 15/02/2007 11:00

Monkeytrousers · 15/02/2007 11:35
