Should you stay friends with someone just because the children get on?

Some of you will have seen my earlier posts about a friendship drifting. As the two DDs get on so well(they are both 4)I have continued to make the effort to see this friend, and she seems open to this - but it is so hard - last time I saw her I was really struggling to make conversation. The kids see each other without us (nursery). Would it be really cruel of me to cut the meetings down to nursery and not see each other outside nursery at all - after children adapt don't they - what do you think?

my view is that life is so busy and so short, that I don't see 'friends' that were hard work, anymore. It was a concious decision, and hard but I feel better spending moretime with important friends now. Children have not been affected at all! Good luck

Thanks Island girl - feel instinctively that it is the right thing to do but as a mother always feel guilty about everything

childish - that will be because you are a good mother, and put your children first.....

Can't you just have the child over without the mother?

Thomcat · 15/06/2004 15:37

Why does the mum have to come? I oftern phone friends and say would X like to come over for afternoon. Mums always pleased as they have a few hours off to themselves.
Next time I'd just call be friendly and then just say can X come over for her tea on such a day.

Will think about that Tinker - not sure whether to or not.

Thanks Islandgirl
