Yesterday i went to a pub with my 2 week old to meet a friend and have lunch he was sleeping soundly. Anyway when i told my oh he complained saying that i shouldnt of taken him out that early to a pub and now he might end up catching germs and diseases that are going around! Now i am really worried about it i.e flu, whooping cough, :/ seriously I am scared to take him out again after that!! Was i wrong for taking him out so early?

My DS was born a week before Christmas and I took him out shopping in a sling - no problems whatsoever. It's really important that you have contact with friends and support outside the home, and your OH should encourage this - it can be very isolating at home alone with a newborn.

pointythings · 01/11/2016 10:30

I took Dd1 out food shopping at one day old. Dd2 went to a funeral at 4 says old. It was fine. As long as you don't let people slobber all over your baby it just isn't a problem. Your OH is being overprotective.

purplefox · 01/11/2016 10:34

My now ex-H done this to me after DS was born as a way to control my every move outside of the house without him, to the point where I never went outside and ended up with anxiety and OCD.

LesisMiserable · 01/11/2016 10:49

Your exh and OP's oh are two different people though.

My dp was told this by his dad and his sister had been made to stay in for 2 weeks. When i asked the midwife she says that baby is fine to go out, its me that needed to be careful not to strain myself due to risk of bleeding.

My mum says it used to be a policy when she had hers, last one 22 years ago, but times change and my sister had hers out to a restaurant at one day old and my baby went on a bus at 5 days old

Everyone worries about random stuff with babies, especially with your first, I know I did and so did my DP.
With my second I had a domino birth (17 years ago)(where you go home 6 hrs after baby is born if you and baby are fine) we popped into Boots on the way home so my DS was less than 8 hrs old, he was perfectly fine.
We did get a few funny looks though, as well as lovely comments.

Are you breast feeding? He'll be getting your antibodies and immunity through your breastmilk.

Also, it's good for babies to have some exposure to the outside world. It helps build their immune systems and avoid auto-immune conditions like asthma, eczema and some types of allergies.

They seem so tiny and vulnerable but are actually incredibly robust.

SleepFreeZone · 01/11/2016 12:20

The cold sore virus can be deadly when they are tiny so don't let anyone kiss your baby on the lips I was hyper vigilant about that being a Coldsore sufferer myself.

Madratlady · 01/11/2016 12:35

He probably feels protective of his baby which is sweet but really he is being ott.

UterusUterusGhali · 01/11/2016 13:34

It's not a puppy. Confused

YoHoHoandabottleofTequila · 01/11/2016 14:21

We took our 4 week old to a wedding.

oldlaundbooth · 01/11/2016 14:23

Took my three day old out to a mall, it was minus 15 that day (Canada). You can't stay indoors, you'll go bananas.

TheTantrumCometh · 01/11/2016 14:28

Congratulations on your baby Smile

It sounds like your dp is being a bit pfb, but you're only two weeks in, he has time to get over it WinkSmile

Two words, School Run. Surrounded by germ infested little virus incubators, no choice and they survive. Your oh is overreacting

datingbarb · 01/11/2016 22:38

Jesus I done the morning school run, had baby at 11.30am and was back at school with the baby at 3pm for pick up

It will be fine
